Anyone changed the amount they use their car as a result of the rising price of fuel?

Haven't changed how much I drive but am actually a bit more conscious of it when driving so don't accelerate as hard as I used.

Have a car but only use it around once or twice a fortnight. Not greatly impacted by petrol as a result. Use my bike and Luas for everything else.

Saw 1.41 outside Navan earlier (won't even mention the infamous ex-Statoil on the quays).

Anyway in my case I need the car for my job so it hasn't affected my usage and I get mileage (which admittedly could be a lot better) which helps.

I no longer use the A/C unless opening the windows can't cool the car. You'd be surprised how much of a load the compressor will put on smaller engines.

The refrigerant which cools the car also lubricates the pipes. I've been told that keeping the a/c off works out more expensive in the long run as it will fracture the pipes.

Opening the windows can destroy the aerodynamics of a car, dramatically increasing it's fuel consumption.

Back to the original question - Yep! No doubt about it - it's one stealth tax that we or the government can't realistically do much about. Another question - Is anyone thinking of getting rid of their car as a result of the rising price of fuel? :(:(:(

Last I saw (a few weeks back) it was 1.79, but someone above says they've dropped it to 1.27 now.

It was 1.24 today, must be new managment or a new policy.

I predict sales of 50cc scooters are going to surge :D

In my case, my A/C is busted and I've started driving a bit more consciously. Cruising on motorways now between 110-120 instead of 120-130. Last few tanks have been 30-40 miles better off as a result.

To be honest, my aircon wouldn't make much difference on a 1.9 litre petrol BMw. Once did a back-to-back test and the difference was 15 miles on a range of 420 miles.
