Friends Movie

A big screen adaptation of US sitcom Friends is reportedly being lined up for release within the next 18 months.

According to the Daily Mail, the spinoff has been inspired by the success of the Sex And The City movie.

Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer and Lisa Kudrow are all apparently keen to reprise their roles in the film.

"The box office success of Sex And The City has really got their wheels spinning about how a Friends film could be just as big, if done right," said a source.

"Timing and the script are really important, but now that Courteney and Jen both have production companies, they can potentially get very involved in those decisions."

The insider added: "What's held back a Friends movie so far is that people worried that Jennifer had simply become to famous to play Rachel again.

"But the truth is that Jennifer is finally willing to do it, and she'd love to work with that whole team of actors and producers again."

Friends aired its final episode on NBC in 2004.

I would rather drink the armpit sweat of a homeless junkie than sit through a friends movie.
But you dont want to know what I had to do to avoid that sex and the city dross.

They can make it if they want, none of us have to actually go and watch it. Bearing in mind that after four seasons of being kind of funny, Friends went on to produce six more seasons of utter crap, it's not like you could claim ahead of time that you expected it to be good. Unless there's something wrong with you, like...

Friends to me was like this:

6 beautiful people move from one well lit situation to another
They drink really big cups of what has to be cold coffee or luke warm
There are no issues in life beyond someone losing their shoes and they have a date to go on
The lads never oogle the ladies
The ladies never oogle the lads
Phrases like "how you doin'" are considered funny

The sad thing is it will still make ****e loads of money.
The TV show was PAINFULLY unfunny IMO so I can just imagine what this dross will be like.It will only be imagination cos never in a million years will I watch it.
The best thing about friends is the pisstake Adam and Joe did with the teddies.Twas called Furrends, now that was funny.

Sex and the City movie did very well at the box office

None of the Friends cast have had great acting careers since the show ended except maybe Matthew Perry in the underrated brillant axed Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and David Schwimmer as a director

That Adam and Joe was one of the funniest shows I have ever seen. It was so ridiculously full of hilarious ideas and has been copied and re-done so many times recently, but shines through as the best ****ing half an hour of stupid giggling holding a ciggy butt and a tinny late at night that there is.

Friends is basically what happened when someone watched Seinfeld and didn't get the joke. Think it was just a show lucky enough to get a young, attractive cast. Certainly wasn't the shallow, cheap humour that got it through 10 years. Did watch it when I was younger, but the endless repeats really do show what a silly, vain programme it was.

I think it's "cool" to hate friends, because everyone everywhere loves it and it's one of the biggest tv shows of the 90's.

Friends is always a bit of fun to watch, it did get a tad **** in the later years but I still watched whenever it was on, I'd definitely go see the film.

None of those chicks were attractive.
    Were they?
Pheobe looks like a giraffe with a low IQ,
Monica quacks like a drowning duck and fancies David Arquette
and Rachael is clearly damaged goods.
Vince vaughn's been there people. You all know what Im saying.

Sometimes, my good friend Robby, someone can have a different opinion to you and not just be bandwagon jumping.
Friends == Two and a half men == everybody loves Raymond == dross written by a table full of moronic staff writers to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Friends is getting a bad rep here but come on, the early seasons were really funny. It started getting ****e towards the end. Its not bad for a half hours entertainment but the reruns are getting increasingly annoying. Its not in the same class as Seinfeld for instance but its not too bad. I might see a film if it came out. (If nothing else was out at the same time!):D

Tv shows are based on how attractice there actors are? Thats cant be right because two BSG charactros where voted the hottest man and womman on TV and its an amazing show but i still hear people say that dont like BSG

As a Friends fan, I dont really want to see a Friends film. I was satisfied with the finale and I think they should leave it at that. The earlier seasons of Friends were hilarious but towards the end they became bad but definitly funnier than Sienfeld. I'm sorry but i dont find Sienfeld funny.

    Meh...I liked Friends.

Movie might not be a good idea though.
I wonder if Simon Pegg has a role lined up yet.

In the context of the thread. Another poster mentioned attractiveness of the characters. In the post above mine actually as far as I remember.
    Read the thredd!

Seems to me as if everyone's missing the point about the characters: just like sex and the city, there are millions of viewers who want to know "what happened next?" They have an emotional investment in the characters, and would like to know whether Ross & Rachel get married, for example.

There are limits, though e.g. who cares about Joey after his show got cancelled? :pac:

Nah I got the point that the plebs fancy a bit more friends.
People fancy a bit more Sopranos and all but that aint gonna happen.
Just pick a logical endpoint and stick to it. Otherwise you have another X-files movie.

Maybe have Friends vs Jason with Jason hacking them all to pieces.

Chandler 'So where's the fancy dress party ya freak?'
    Slash-machete across the face
    Joey comes in...'How you doing?'
    Crack-Jason rips out his spine
Monica 'I hope you are going to clean that up mister'
Crash-Jason picks up microwave and smashes her head in
Phoebe 'My mom dated a hockey mask wearing serial killer once'
Jason grabs a load of minced meat and stuffs in into her big mouth
Ross and Rachel 'We were on a break-NO WE WEREN'T'
Jason breaks the two of them in half and throws them at naked fat guy

not too far off it. Friends "speak" is everywhere in ireland with borrowed americanisms and accents. The word "like" is epidemic as is the overuse and misinterpreted word "actually".

The show had its own moral guidelines, blatent sterotyping on both a racial and non racial level. Despite the storyline of lesbian ex wife (which was done for the humour value), the show is also riddled with homophobia.

Now i know its just a TV but similar to SATC, it's influence on society is alarming that is almost a religion in its own right with its influence.

Metaphysical and sociapathic rant aside (:D), it was just dumb television which made an ill advised presumption that the audience was also dumb.

Are we watching the same show? Homophobia? Was there an episode I haven't seen where Joey and Chandler go out beating up gay people?

We all secretly support friends, proof of it is on our username Bar.

The only way it will be good is if they approach it like they did the first few seasons of Friends which were undeniably the best. If it was a tv styled movie maybe, but it probably is going to be covered in Hollywood, with a really cheesy cliffhanger.

    Oh well.

What? Since when does homophobia constitute beating up gay people??

C'mon, were the blokes on the show tolerant of homosexuals?

David Schwimmer has gone into directing I think.
    With Simon Pegg and them.
Both are suffering because of this partnership.
But Mr. Schwimmer is permanently saved from insults because of Band of Brothers.
Which Simon Pegg was also in.
    For about 3 seconds.
    Did anyone else spot that?

In terms of mass appeal there has not been a show like Friends since and probably wont ever be again. Not with all us cynical internerds ruling the world now anyway. Its a no brainer and will make a fortune at the box office. I really dont have any problem with it. If there is nothing else on I will still watch a friends re run and find myself laughing alot of the time (even later seasons seem better now).

Its no where near the best sitcom of all time: Arrested Development, Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm kick its ass in terms of writing but Friends was designed for mass appeal. It goes in the same box as Cheers, The Cosby Show etc. I would definatly go and see a movie if this was to happen.

I'd avoid a Friends movie since the last 3 series were very poor. Even though in its hay day it was never great it was light viewing which could make me smile. A bit like Two and a Half Men. Hardly genius but passes the time.

Bob Loblob's Law blog was pretty intolerant of gay people as I recall.

'No truth' in Friends film rumour:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7489204.stm (posted today)
There are no plans for a rumoured big-screen version of Friends, film studio Warner Bros has told the BBC.

Since the success of the Sex and the City movie, there has been constant speculation that the US sitcom's six stars had agreed to their own film.

One UK press report even suggested that the first scenes would be shot within the next 18 months.

However, Warner Bros' director of publicity in the UK, Jayne Trotman, said there was "no truth in the story".

Yeah, how would it work with the TV show having a laughter track...? Wouldn't they realise nobody actually laughs in the premiere without big neon signs for the audience saying "LAUGH NOW!"

    Mwahaha.

Courteney Cox has revealed that she is hesitant to commit to a Friends film because she is not sure what direction it could take.
Rumours of a possible movie have persisted since the popular sitcom went off air in 2004, but the actress, who played Monica Geller, told Ellen DeGeneres that she is not convinced that it would work.
Speaking on DeGeneres's daytime talk show, she said: "Well, it all took place around an apartment and a coffee shop so I don't know what would we do? We went to England once, and was that great? I'm not sure.
"The show was great, but I don't know. I don't think we're going to do it. People keep talking about it, I wish we would."
However, Cox later claimed that she regretted her choice of words.
"Why do I say the words, 'I wish we would'?," she said. "Then it's going to be like, 'Courteney wants to do the thing but the rest of the cast doesn't'."

I think the series ended well they dont a film
Jennifer Aniston has revealed that she would jump at the chance to do a Friends movie, provided the timing was right.
The Marley And Me actress admitted that she would love to reprise the role of Rachel Green in a film version of the hit sitcom, but warned that it would have to be soon.
"We know how much people want that, and we would of course do it if it's right," she told People. "But I say do it way before we get to be geriatric Friends. Let's hurry it up!"

I hope they don't make a movie. I love Friends but they ended it nicely they don't need to rehash it.
