    Howdy!

I'm thinking of heading over to the Academy in the next few weeks. I've never been before so I'm looking for some info...

I'd probably be going during the week. How busy does it normally get midweek? Would it be busier in the morning or afternoon?

How does the short game area work? Do you bring your own balls and just do whatever you feel like or do you have to use their balls and particular areas?

Do they have grass driving areas or are they all off mats? If they have grass, are they large enough to not be full when you get there??

    Many thanks for any info!

Busier in the PM I'd guess, but there should be plenty of room up to 4pm as schools are back now.

There are 2 sizable greens with 5/6 flags on each. The first one you get to has no bunkers whilst the other one does. My normal approach is to bang a basket of balls on the range, then head to the short game area and use my own balls.

They have grass areas and mats. If you're going over before 4pm, don't worry, there will be plenty of room. A couple of occasions it's been wet but not raining, everyone was hitting off mats. I chanced my arm and asked the steward if it was ok to play off the grass. He said give it a half hour and he'd give the green light. He was true to his word. There is a quiet grass area halfway to the short game area where I like to go if the main bays are busy. It's about 100 yards east of the main building. Just walk round by the putting green and the mats and you'll find it.

Enjoy. Haven't been up there in 6 weeks. Need to get back myself.
