UPC Cable network upgrade architecture?

I was just curious to know what type of network architecture UPC Ireland are rolling out.

I know they're putting in a fair bit of fibre.

    Is it :

Fibre To The Last Amplified (FTTLA) where it's fibre optic as far as the last distribution node and then only coaxial to from there to the subscribers home. This seems to be the way it's done in higher-tech systems like Numericable in France which is offering HDTV and up to 100mbit/s net access.

They're pushing it as 'fibre optic network' but, in reality, it's not fibre to your home.

They're also using an early rollout of DOCSIS 3.0 over the coax.

Any ideas what UPC are actually up to? Is it just a coax network with improved trunks hooked up to a fibre backbone?
Or, is this a much more comprehensive upgrade that will bring it into line with the likes of the French network?

Solair its very similar to the French networks. As Far as I know UPC has the most fibre in he ground over any other company.

Probably what is called HFC. Makes little difference to Digital TV, but a HUGE difference to Broadband as it allows higher speed/Lower contention.

DOCSIS 3.0 (Channel Bonding for 150Mbps etc) is pointless without HFC, Fibre and short Coax to CMTS.

Above comment does not refer to watty but to an offensive contribution which (hopefully along with it's contributor) has been removed.
