Buying for those you don't want to?

I've an uncle thats of a different nationality (not the nations fault so wouldn't name it - just his). He's a outright racist biggot, hates all colours, countries, is a member of secret organisations that are also "odd".
He never has a good word for anyone. Comes over, drinks all and rarely says "thanks".

...Yet he gets a present from my mother (whom for years he treated like crap). She get him one because only that he's married to my aunt. She suspects that of she didn't get him one, he'd probably take his venom out on his poor wife as well.

    My question is to others:
Do you have to at times, buy a present for someone you don't like just for the sake of keeping the peace etc?

Do you buy presents for those you don't like? 56 votes

Yes - to maintain the peace in the family

No - the person can get stuffed

    Other - explain?

Yes, but get them a completely inappropriate or annoying present designed to piss them off and act innocent about it.

Get him one of those notional charity gifts.
You know. A well for a town. Or sponsor a zebra at Fota wildlife park or something.

We're doing this (I say we as OH and I get presents for extended family members together) for one of my relatives this year. Was racking my brain on what to get, then the most bland looking cheap ornament presented itself. Couldn't resist. It's even a symbol of peace (the ornament) and those receiving it know of the rift between us but have never been open to speaking about it or resolving it.*

    Spiteful, moi?

*you'll find me in PI soon, crying over a smashed ornament that cost less than a fiver

I think in your case I'd f*ck him out of it and f*ck your aunt out of it too for marrying the piece of sh*t. My Dad's an arsehole but it's not really that he's a bad person, just extremely ignorant, neurotic and self centred. He lives to antagonise and will drive everyone nuts again this Christmas but I'd better get him something (even though he doesn't get anyone else anything).

You could get him a copy of Mein Kampf, but he's probably already got it.

Another possibility is a big box of laxative chocolates. You could then watch him sh1t himself into a coma.

    No. but close.

The idea that he might (by a present bought in his name) be helping to feed Africans would give him a heart attack.

Its an ideal present (god forgive me).

So is your aunt Irish? Dare I smell shenanigans?

Aye, the aunt is Irish. He never wanted kids either so he, the big thug bully that he is, got his way.
He's a scumbag of the lowest patronising kind. He's hated all-round by everyone in the family, close and extended.

...by the way, this is the same uncle that thought when I was five, that the way to get me to learn to swim, was to throw me into the deep end of an adult pool.
He thought it was funny, my parents and the life guard (who had to save me from drowning), surprisingly didn't agree with him.

He was and still is, an ass of the highest order!

No I wouldn't biggins. Also, try some laxitives in his drinks this year, might keep him busy for a while :)

It really depends on the severity of it all. I mean if somebody is really that nasty, then no... if someone you just don't like soo much but the problem might ly with you, then yea...
