    Lads

Anyone else finding the frosty conditions difficult to lamp foxes in at the moment. With the still bright moonlit nights and the crispy underfoot conditions its hard to get around unnoticed by Mr fox.

    Cheers.

Yeah I find the same. A damp, evening is much better

Cloudy, slight wind and mild = good lamping conditions for me.

Must say I have been out the last 3 nights and managed to bag 19 foxes. (back to work tomorrow so that ends my christmas hunting)
With the long cold snap they are extra hungry and are coming to calls much faster. Shot 6 of these within 20 yards of the lamp!

Always find if I'm in the jeep I always park under large tree\barn\wall etc so that it gives more cover on nights with clear skys

Thats nice work terrier. What kind of gun did you shoot these with? We have to do our shooting on foot(no jeep) and use a shotgun with 56grm loads and a .17hmr, find this combo works best.

i hope you left a few for next year?? I suppose its very possable to wipe them out in one area if 19 are being taken in 3 nights???
but it was good going anyway

My club area covers nearly 9sq miles and 5 where taken on Farms on requests of landowners outside my club area.

On my last night driving home after dropping of my lamp man home, 4 crossed the road in front of me within a 3 mile trip !

I use a .223 shooting Remington AccuTip 55g (expensive but an excellent round)

I find in my area that a mild, dark night with damp ground and a slight breeze is best as the darker the night the less shilouete you'll cast, the damp ground brings out the worms and grubs charlie loves, a mild night is normally overcast and has some moisture in the air so it doesn't echo or transfer sounds as much as a clear night and the breeze can keep your scent away from charlie if used properly.

full moon,no wind, crisp night and frosty noisy grass under your feet???better of at home in front of the fire. charlie will see and hear you from a mile away.
