I only have a mere 446.3 miles logged in 58:46:17 hours for 2008 aparently.

I did spend serveral months being lazy/ on holiday/ being injured though but still maganed to get a marathon time that I'm very very happy with ... for the moment.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,492 ✭✭✭Woddle

1,150 miles for myself and thats not including Jan and most of Feb. There was also far too many bad weeks, next year I would ideally like to be closer to 2,000 miles.

    258 runs

    2324 miles

    16 races:
    12 road/track - 6 PB's
    4 XC

3 major goals at the start of the year - break hour for 10 miles, 3hrs for marathon and top 100 in National Novice. Managed all 3 just about so very happy with the year.

Now need targets for next year, but will be focussing more on shorter distances 1500m/mile in the first half of the year and then XC in second half.

    Happy New Year.

Had to dust the spreadsheet down for this one... Here goes:-
    • I ran 269 days in 2008 - this included the first and last day of the year, so start and finish as you mean to continue... :)
    • Sunday was the main running day with 42 runs. Friday was the least preferred running day with 34 runs.
    • I ran for a total of  10 days, 11 hours and 52 mins
    • 3,150km
    • 63k of hills were ascended
    • Avg km time was 4:43
    • 4 marathons (PBed in Cork)
    • 1 almost marathon (3 peaks race)
    • 1 half marathon (PBed in Bantry)
    • 1 10K race (PBed in Aware run)
    • Longest time on feet – 4:27 3 Peaks race
    • Best feeling: PBs achieved. Mount Leinster imra race.
    • Worse feeling: 3 peaks race (thought it would never end).

Blimey, you guys are running legends :( A mere 1,059.5 miles here including a handful of races.

Though I can beat your max 'time on feet' Slogger with my 4.47 at Longford :)

And hopefully I'll start 2009 as I mean to go on tomorrow. All the best for your running next year guys.

Not very good at keeping running logs like that. I do plan a long run tomorrow though as I'm not doing the 5k in the phoenix park, will hopefully cover 16-20 miles, missed my long run sunday so a long run tomorrow should allow a good LSR sunday week. :)

    197 days out
    4Days,20hours,42mins,9secs
    823miles
8 Races --7Pb's(Except Aware),7 negative splits (except marathon)

Most enjoyable moments--end of Terenure 5m(happy with time).
Although not happy with marathon performance the congrats
from people even weeks afterwards as it was my first, only running 2 yrs and lots didn't know i did anything.

Least enjoyable--realising walking down to start of Aware 10k that i just could not stand with the ice
and that my year long sub 50min 10k goal was gone.

Being passed by many in last 6miles of
marathon as i thought i would be passing people.
Realising at finish line i have to do another and maybe another (lisbon treaty like) marathon as i won't stop until i break 4hrs!

    - 3143 miles of running

    - 1 ultra (39.3 miles)
    - 2 marathons
    - 1 15 mile race
    - 2 half marathons
    - 1 10 miles
    - 3 10k
    - 1 8k
    - 1 4 miles
    - 1 5k

And I set new PRs in all distances except for the ultra. Not a bad year, especially considering that it started with a pneumonia that felt like it was going to kill me!

Congrats Thomas. With mileage like that you are keeping the running shoe supplier in business. We were swapping PBs in some races by the looks of it. Me in Bantry and Cork and you in Dublin, for instance. I stop at marathon distance though. What I don't do > 26 miles I make up for on the rough and tumble of the hills.

    Happy new year fellow boardsies.

Well firstly what I didn't do in 2008 (in comparison to the previous 5 years) was spend most of my time on the beer.....my wife is happier, i'm happier with myself and i've set a better example for my kids

    I started running/triathlon in 2008 and managed

    Achill Half Marathon
    Balla 10 k
    Claregalway 10 K
    Ballina 10 K
    Balla 5 k
    Fields of Athenry 10 k

    Carlingford Olympic Triathlon
    Moycarn Sprint Triathlon
    Portumna Sprint Triathlon

More importantly I realised a way to keep my motivation levels up which is participating in events - and I've got to say I've personally benefitted tremendously from it

I've met some great people at races and have bumped into old friends at the start line that I haven't seen in since I finished school 15 years ago

I've no idea what sort of training times I've managed but some of the figures above would put me to shame

MCOS - by the looks of it you look like you're on for some great performances in 2009. You've said swimming is your weakest discipline but 1.5 k in 28:58 is no mean feat - wait til you discover swimming in a triathlon wetsuit - it's a breeze compared to the pool - its like zero gravity running - you'll knock minutes off that time

    HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!!

I have only being keeping track since the start of June...but here goes :

    980 miles
    113 runs
    8 Races :
    2 x 5m
    2 x 10k
    2 x 10m
    1 x Half Marathon
    1 x 4m

Did not think i did that many miles in 6 months ...frightening when you count them all up.

Were you not tempted to lace up your shoes and add just one additional mile when you added up those figures? :P

My OH said the exact same thing to me but alas it was already 2009 by the time I read this thread! :(

...Although, hang on... there was one time I was early for rugby practice and I did about 2 miles around the pitches to warm up!

    1,001 miles woohoo :D

I must remember that trick MCOS, pulling miles out of the memory bank like that :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

Not sure exactly how much I did, but I only started running in mid-July and have done about 12-15 miles a week since then, running 3-5 times a week. I've completed my first 2 races (30.24 5k, 1.05.59 10k) and I've lost 2 1/2 stone.

Pretty happy with that so far, and here's to a lot more in '09! Only 4 miles logged so far...

    Total Miles Run: 2,209
    Number of Races: 16

    Min Distance Raced: 3km
    # PBs: 4 - 10k ( x 2), 5 miles, 5k

    Prize Money*: €0
Number of Long Runs (circa 15 miles): 34

*Only included because I picked up €25 at the Tom Brennan New Years race... 2009 is off to a great start.

Feck it I'll throw up my stats for a bit of craic:

Total Miles Run: 240 (approx)
    Number of Races: 15
    Firsts: 10
    Seconds: 4
    Other: 1
    Max Distance Raced: .4km
    Min Distance Raced: .1km
    # PBs: 1 (.2km)
    Highest Placing: 1st
Prize Money: €100 (yet to cash the cheque - don't want to lose amateur status)
Number of Long Runs (circa .6km): 15

I really should do some proper running and move up to a real distance:D:D:D which I will do once I retire from this young mans game at the end of this season. DCM '10 here we come and I'll return then with some proper mileage stats and a pair of Ron Hill running tights with straps on the end.

Are you sure you want to plan your retirement while you're still running PBs?! I'd wanna know just how fast I could go!

Your better off without the football, I considered giving it one last season as my last season I was playing as a fatso and I would have been a good player back in my early 20s but while walking through marlay park I stopped to watch a game and I saw a horrific tackle, a tackle where you know this guy is not going to work in the morning. From that point on I said fcuk football, I still play the indoor on a Tuesday night though, the equivelant of tag rugby :D

I gave up football at the end of last season, was picking up too many little injuries and after every match couldnt train for a day or 2 . Since then i've missded very little training.

My physio basically said not to play again if I wanted to keep running, just a part of growing a little older and the fact that different muscle groups are used, in my case it wasn't even a tackle just a sudden direction change that ruptured a muscle completely.

3 half-marathons (including my first, in January), one Cork Marathon relay, 2 marathons (including my first, in April), one first 10k of a marathon, one dodgy runner's knee - which thankfully finally seems to be on the mend.

Incidentally Ian O'Riordan had a good article in Saturday's Irish Times about how newcomers to running can avoid picking up injuries, Running is not just as simple as you thought.

Only started in Feb after giving up smoking on Jan 1st and most of December was a washout due to a back injury.

    Running:
154 runs covering 1615.89KM / 1009.93 miles (a few runs completed while out of the country are not included) average = 6.5 miles per run
    Races:
    1 * 10K
    1 * 5 mile
    1 * 1/2 Marathon
    1 * Marathon
    Cycling:
37 outings covering 1229.14 KM / 768.21 miles - average = 20.76 miles per session (shorter outings are no included in my logs) - cycling was interupted in Sept/Oct due to marathon training.

    Swimming:
46 sessions covering 65,750 mts - average = 1399 per session. again swimming was interupted due to Marathon training:
    Duathlons/Triathlons completed

    3 * Duathlons
    2 * sprint Triathlons
    1 * Olympic Triathlon
Along the way my weight dropped from 16+st to 13st, still another 1 to go.

Should cover a lot more in 09 as I plan to do the Lisbon 1/2 IM in April and possibly the full Eireman in August plus 2 marathons and a few sprint/Oly Triathlons.

Heres to 09 and staying injury free.

    Longest run: 15.81 miles
Heaviest running month was June at 103 miles although I ran more often in December. Lightest was November with none!

    Swim : 26 sessions, 23.6km

    Bike : 5 outings, totalling 54.7miles

    11 races:
    2x half-marathon, 1x10 mile, 1x10 km, 3x5 mile, 1x 5 km, 1x 4mile CC, 1x sprint triathlon, 1x 1 mile.
Seems I run and ride in miles, but swim metric.

I went back over my 2008 log with a calculator because I knew the swim figure was wrong. There was no way I swam 2k a session! I was also further away from the 1,000 miles running than I estimated. I could not let that lie. I'll hit that 1,000 miles in 2009 and improve both the swim and bike mileage too.
    :o
