As a Scotsman, I'd have preferred to see him captain in 2014.

Could be the breast captain we've ever had ;)

... and in fairness, no matter how much he hums and haws, his speeches couldn't possibly evoke the skin-crawling, arse-clenching embarrassment which Faldo put us through.

Looking forward to Monty being in charge.

I went to the Welsh Open in 2007.. took a mad notion on the friday evening (because it was a Bank Holiday weekend here), was on the boat on Saturday morning, phoned Celtic Manor on the way and they had rooms available so we stayed the Saturday night there... the hotel is fantastic really.

Haven't played golf there but not a bad idea for a trip with the weak sterling at the moment. Would be nice to see the course and play it before watching the Ryder Cup.

Some seriously scary bloody holes on that course (see 5, 9 [666 yds off the tips ... Jaysus] and 14!!!). They mention with regard to that 9th hole that some might still be looking to reach in two .... who DA HELL can do that?? A 340 yd drive would still leave you a 326yd 3 wood ... em, is that even possible? I suppose on a sunny day, with a gale force wind at your back and a cocktail of amphetamines coursing through your veins .....

Great facility on the site there to do a flyby of each hole too. Maybe this is the course for the elusive Boards Golf Outing!?!

Suprised Monty got it. Thought they should have given it to Woosnam myself what with it being in Wales. So does that mean Monty will be in for it again at Gleneagles in 2014?

Lets hope that if Darren Clarke plays well over the next season he will get the chance he deserves to play the Ryder Cup again under Monty. He was screwed over by Faldo but hopefully he gets the opportunity with Monty!

Personally if it did come down to Monty and Ollie I'm glad Monty got the home gig in Celtic Manor leaving Ollie to take up the reins in Medinah in 2012. I think he's better suited to taking on the Yanks on their home soil.

Not a great fan of Monty, but seems very likely he will be a good captain to me.

Fair play to Monty. I think he will be a great captain.

At least he knows the players and more importantly the players know him and they know how much he loves the Ryder Cup.

I'm not sure that Woosie should have been considered just because it's in Wales. If that was the case why did he get the job at the K Club? Should it not have been Christy Jnr or Des Smyth?

No, I think Monty will inspire the team to bring the Cup back.:)
