    Hi all,

I have an Ibiza that has been chipped by couple of stones and rusted a couple of spots during use so have just rang garage to see if covered under warranty.

Garage says no - are they correct?

    Thanks in advance

    What year is it?

TBH, i reckon its a massive, massive can of worms.

seeing as your wear and tear has removed protective coating, then warranty is void for this issue?

    2008

    Can of worms as in...?

I seen this on a site but it doesnt say anything about it in my warranty itself

Rust perforation: Rust coverage covers body panels that have rusted through. Such policies generally last five to six years and have no mileage limits. They only cover complete perforation — a relatively rare occurrence with today's rust-proofing — so you'll probably be denied a claim for sheet metal that's only partially rusted. Most policies don't provide coverage for rust caused by rock chips, hail or acid rain.

If damage isn't attended and rust then appears they will try and wiggle out. AFAIK most corrosion warranties cover against perforation of the metal, and not actual surface rust. What year is the car? I thought all modern cars were galvanised and mostly immune from rust.

As above, i think the paint warranty would only cover panels that would be acutally rusted through. I doubt it would cover spots of rust where stones have damaged the paintwork and laquer.

Try a different Seat dealer and see what they say.

Surely the bodywork should be galvanised... should rust too easily...
    defective manufacturing?

I read in Whatcar? about a Fiesta with rust spots on the door, after some wrangling Ford agreed to repaint, the spots re-appeared, they then fitted new doors. Took a fight a Whatcars? intervantion though.

TBH if you really should treat any damage to paint as it occurs.

    About this...

Outside of dealers, who would be able to do this fix this...preferably at the right price? I live around midlands

Any good bodyshop should be able to sort you out. I dont know any down that way, but im sure someone will point you in the right direction.

Are there many stone chips? If not you could simply apply some rust eater to the exposed metal and then simply retouch with a paint stick.

Cut your losses and get it crushed and recycled would be my advice.
