    WARNING

Garda now doing speed checks on the N32/M50 link heading from Hilton to M50 /M1 Interchange.

They are hiding on the left in a concealed entrance after the travellers camp.

It is a 60km zone so watch out folks as I was done last night with not a sinner on the road as it was after 12 midnight.

2 points and €80 revenue exercise.

This is a straight road with no accident black spots so as far as I am concerned just this is just a revenue making excercise.

They should be Policing the local darndale estate trying to catch the stolen cars!!!

    Rant over

So you weren’t speeding and not breaking the law. I'd bring it to court and get your money back. Shocking state of affairs the law is being implemented

Come on the speeding laws are a joke in this country. You can do 80 on a small boreen but only 60 on stretches of a dual carriageway?! As the previous poster said if this was a black spot it makes sense. All speed traps should be well flagged to the driving public...prevention is meant to be the aim but instead it is all about earning revenue.

    here ended this rant.

That’s not for you to decide. The law is the law. If you can’t deal with it face the consequences

If the majority of the country can drive within the speed limit then I dont think they are set at unreasonable levels

Was it by any chance a Tax and Insurance check too...;)

I know that road and would use it reguarly! It is a joke that it is only 60Km but I do stay within the speed limit but do find my self going over sometimes as it is a good road and I can understand the frustration of it but Iv learned my lesson on going over speed limits. As previously said, you can do 80 on dodgy squirmy back roads but on a flat straight good road, its only 60...REDICULOUS!!! Its the back roads that the garda should be policing and where most accidents occur!!!

AFAIK the reason for the 60km/h limit is twofold:

    1) The pedestrian lights for Belcamp College (no longer open)

    &

    2) the halting site.

I'm open to correction on this.

My main grip with this road is the speed limit and the fact that as soon as I get through the roundabout, I'm straight into the now defunct bus lane, switch on the cruise control and coast all the way at 60 km/h. Taxi drivers flashing at blowing their horn at me to move out of their way but I don't want to travel in what as I see as the overtaking lane because I don't want to have people illegally undertaking me (giving the Gardai a chance to do them for it should they be unfortunate enough). You're damned if you do and damned if you don't!

Should really be 80 on at least some sections of that road imo.

you shouldnt be in the bus lane really at any time...i know the bus lane is open after 7 but once you are doing the speed limit, let any other users do the illegal and undertake you and speed at their discretion..Thats their problem. You upload your end of the law and let others break it if they want to. Let the taxis break the limit!! Their a Shambles of drivers anyway!!

Well sometimes, the law is an ass.

I know this road well. They haven't even removed the old bus lane markings leading to utter confusion.

Agree with the OP - they should be out policing Darndale instead of hitting revenue generating soft targets.

The bus lane is not in use any more as there are no bus services that use it on a regular basis.

By the way, my father is a taxi driver so be careful not to tar them all with the same brush! ;)

Sorry, let me rephrase my words...
A high percentage of taxi drivers are a shambles.. :D i have relations etc that are taxi drivers too but Iv heard taxi drivers even admit it..anyway,thats off the point.
I wasnt aware that the bus lane is out of use so stay in that lane then and let them flash and beep etc...let them go around you. I would nearly stop my car to make the point and frustrate the hell out of them and get out and explain in person to their window if need be that I am doing the speed limit!

AFAIK, you can overtake on the inside of two lanes if the speed limit is below 80KMH. EG: The N32, dual carriageways of Ballymun and Malahide Roads, etc. I'm open to correction on this one though.

I believe you are incorrect on this point. A quick browse of the Rules of the Road website reveals:
You may overtake on the left when

    * You want to go straight ahead when the driver in front of you has moved out and signalled that they intend to turn right.
    * You have signalled that you intend to turn left.
    * Traffic in both lanes is moving slowly and traffic in the left-hand lane is moving more quickly than the traffic in the right-hand lane.

I doubt 80 km/h counts as "moving slowly".

yep, i didnt think that undertaking at speeds of up to 80Km was allowed  When you travel at the speed limit, your doing just fine. Let the taxis/other road users undertake you at speeds. Its their choice. I would recommend to everyone to be cautious of speed as I have gotten caught a few times and have learned from it. Its horrible to be on a good road and doing 60 but with road signs expelling the law, you cant win.

Can't be that hard for the taxis to leave "their" lane for a few seconds to overtake you so like everyone else says, **** 'em.

That's exactly my thinking. I'm not going any faster considering I already have 4 points from the M1 near the Port Tunnel entrance (another ridiculous 60km/h and 80 km/h limit) and don't fancy my insurance getting more expensive as a result.

I think it's a good idea to warn people about speed traps which are on perfectly safe roads which have stupidly low speed limits.

I posted a warning (Link) about a speed trap in the Galway City regional board and there was quite a big debate about whether it's right or wrong to warn people. I posted it in the regional board (rather than commuting and transport) because I thought it would get more views in there by people who were possibly about to travel the route. Although, I'm sure it would have got a fair few in here too.

you should be in the left-most available lane and outside rush hours, this is often the bus lane when it not operable. You should not be cruising in the right hand lane if the out of use bus lane is available

I'm not sure what country you're referring to. But I can assure you that many of our speed limits don't make sense, either in their present form or in the catalog of crazy and inexplicable changes over time. Additionally, most drivers will break speed limits, particularly on Regional roads, and to a lesser extent on National roads and Motorways.

I used to adhere to speed limts, quite pedantically when I was learning to drive, on all different types of roads mainly single carriagway. But after causing a whole load of tailbacks and being overtaken for the gazillionth time, I got the message.

The Gardaí have a list of Speed Enforcement zone's
    http://www.garda.ie/sez/
"An Garda Síochána will utilize these zones in order to direct speed enforcement activity in a proportionate and targeted manner"

    The N32 isn't listed.

They also have a list of collision prone zones. The n32 isn't listed either.

So either the Gardaí are shooting fish in a barrel, or they need to update their lists, or their description of speed enforcement is less than truthful

They have been using this spot for a few years. They are often parked a little closer to the M50, at the entrance to the care centre.

And on the speed limit i think AA tried to get this changed but obviously their suggestion wasn't taken on board. they should put in a walkover bridge and get rid of the lights.

    OP here.
Yes they were parked hidden at the care centre entrance. The Officer did not have a HI-VIS vest on either so I am sticking by my guns that this is just revenue making excercise.

Yes I was speeding and will pay the fine but with no vehicles on road at this hour of the night it was shooting fish in a barrel for the Police.

I was doing over 60kmh , so yes I was speeding.
I point I was raising is that this road is not an accident black spot.
It is a straight link road leading up to M50/M1 interchange from Clarehall.

I have no issue with the law being implemented as you mention but what I do have issue with is the lack of Policing in the local estate whereby Garda resources should be used to Police the HOT SPOTS where local criminals are getting away with OFFENCES much higher on the criminal justice scale than someone slightly over a speed limit.

Thank you for your comments, duly noted,:)
