How much to charge for MIDI backing tracks?

Sorry for flooding the boards today, but here's my second question.

I've done a number of Bruce Springsteen tracks for a lad in MIDI format. Some are easy (Radio Nowhere), and some are very long (My Love Will Not Let You down, Born To Run). They took me between 4 and 10 hours to complete each one, between working out the song, adding drum fills etc etc.

How much would you expect to pay for an individual backing track if you got a guy to do it. I have a figure in my head but I would rather run it by a few people before charging him.

You need to charge by the job not by the hour on this one.... as 4-10 hours is a pretty long time !!!!

I know guys that do a bulk cost for tracks but its not alot in real terms....

PMI, I completely agree with you, and that is why I am asking. But this is a once off job. I work as a web designer, puter fixer, databaser in my proper job so I'm conscious that a full time guy with the proper gear would probably do it in half the time.

The guy will be using it for gigging, he is putting together a tribute twosome/threesome. He's a friend so I dont want to go too hard on him but I would like to get a reasonable few quid out of it, which why I'm asking. How much is fair, for say average six hours per track?

maybe start at minimum wage and add more if you think it needs it?
