This really makes my blood boil.

    ****ing ****

    http://www.herald.ie/national-news/city-news/terrible-sight-as-donkey-found-hanged-in-park-1731501.html

    By Claire Murphy

    Thursday May 07 2009

It's a scene of unbelievable cruelty.

A donkey foal found apparently hanged on the city's westside.

Welfare officers were called to Con Colbert Road in Ballyfermot early on Tuesday and were shocked to discover the poor donkey tethered to a tree, strangled to death.

Liam Fitzgerald, from the Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA), said it looked as if the animal struggled to get free after his torturers left him.

"Someone tied the donkey to a tree overhead. It appears as if they tried to hoist him up onto the tree to try and hang him, but gave up, maybe because of his weight," he said.

"The donkey walked round and round to get free, but cut off the airflow," he added. "We think it was just gurriers up to no good. They were absolute thugs."

The DSPCA officer said that the donkey's owners were distraught: "They last visited the donkey at 10.30pm on Monday night to make sure he had enough water and food. They are very good animal keepers."

    Adopted

The owner of the donkey, Anna, said her family, all animal lovers, adopted the donkey and were looking after it in the field near to their home.

"It was coming up to Easter Sunday when we decided to take him. The kids wanted to name him Baby Jesus," she revealed. "They are completely inconsolable, they're devastated. I'm not the best for it.

"I can't understand it. Do these people have no value on life?" Anna added.

The 10-month-old donkey was in the field with two other horses and was extremely friendly with anyone who came to feed him or pat him. Anna said that her daughter (9) was even carefully training the donkey with a head collar.

"His eyes were as big as saucers. He would always make you laugh -- he was running around all the time," she said.

The DSPCA said that incidents of cruelty to horses are on the increase.

    Strangled

"We had another horse in Smithfield on Sunday last who strangled himself in a horsebox," said Liam. "And in the Clondalkin area at the weekend there was another horse so badly emaciated that he could barely stand. I just asked the vet to shoot him immediately to put him out of his misery."

Mr Fitzgerald also said that last month another horse died of thirst in Bohernabreena in west Dublin.

"Someone just chucked him into a field and didn't think to give him any water," he said. "It's just disgusting."

I hope someone in that other 99.9% suspects who did it and reports them.

Frankly its a disgrace, this area has been long deprived of donkey hanging facilities while the leafy suburbs of Foxrock are well served with such amenities.

Would be a good idea, is it not a fact that the scum who abuse, torture and kill animals usually go on to do this to normal decent people.

Absolute f*cking scum, probably out of their heads on heroin or coke. I started a thread on a poor dog having his leg blown off with a shotgun here only a few weeks ago... These people must be possessed, how else could you do something like this???

Am I reading correctly in that the family kept the donkey in a field nearby the house? Public land?

I'm not for one second defending the scum that murdered the donkey, but surely just leaving an animal like that in a field nearby is just inviting trouble?

This is just so sad. So depressing. Thinking of the kids up in a tree and trying to pull the creature up and watching in choking and in pain and it in distress. And not caring.
    Its so horrible.

And where exactly do you think most animals like horses, donkeys and cattle are kept. Exactly out in fields. FFS. Does not condone what those b's did to that poor young defenceless animal. They are just pure sick in the head.

I don't think it's an over reaction, the scum that did that are just as capable of doing something similar to a person.

An over reaction,do you think so.Its only a matter of time when a defenceless animal wont give them a big enough kick, rember that toddler in England that was beaten to death by two young boys,Jamie Bulger was his name.

To be honest, anyone who eats meat can't honestly be sympathetic about this donkey.

Pigs are hung up by their back legs and have their throats sliced, to get you that lovely bacon on your plate.

Chickens have their beaks smashed off, wings snapped, legs sliced off, etc to make them easier to farm, for those lovely chicken burgers on your plate.

This ^ is you (meat-eaters) doing this by proxy, you are responsible.

I'm sure these animals would much prefer to just have their oxygen supply cut off by hanging like that donkey, than the lifetime of torture cruelty and pain they go through.

Look this up if you don't believe me. Visit a pig farm. Visit a chicken factory.

    I'm vegan by the way.

Because that's a seriously OTT, knee jerk reaction, and totally disproportionate to the, (admittedly heinous), crime.

However, those responsible should be jailed, and never be allowed to keep so much as stick insect again.
