Im just finished college for the summer.have a part time job in a pub 10 to 15 hours if im lucky.anyways off i went with c.v's,the papers job sections, online job sites, into the fas office.i was looking at the board in the fas office and saw some part time jobs that seemed to suit my skills level and when i asked about them i cant apply because im not egilable for the C.E scheme.WTF???
bad enough people get college grants on their address but when you go for a job you can't even apply

for example in limerick you can get a grant for being from a "bad" area but if you live a newer suburb and your parents earn the same you wont even get any help

I live in a crappy area, per se and get all sorts of grants and things. It's nice per se.

Edit just noticed your name so now I must add "Per se" for no reason

Yes welcome to Ireland, or what is commonly known as 'Fairy land'.

If you think anyone in Fas has a clue what they are doing then prepare yourself for a shock. From what I have experienced they are usually employed for having no intelligence, manners or common sense. Which basically means they have the kind of IQ normally found in a gerbal.

    Shower of wasters.

I'm guessing its one of these.

You're not long-term unemployed, so you don't qualify...

Community Employment. The jobs are usually jobs which sound well paid but actually pay the same rate as dole.

English prods. Don't mind them. More of their dirty, exclusionary, anti-Irish devilment, I'll wager.

Congrats on finishing college & welcome to the real world. Sadly in this world we give everything to those who contribute least & fcuk the middle class as hard as we can. Enjoy! Now go use your qualification to get a job & start contributing to these schemes or there'll be loads of free-loaders out there with no FAS scheme to abuse

How can someone abuse a FAS scheme? As I understand it a FAS scheme only pays the same as dole but you have to get out of bed every morning to do it so it wouldn't appeal to free-loaders.

Except that one is experience working and the other is not.

"And what experience do you have?"

"Well I sat on my couch for 3 years earning the dole"

"I see. You must be a very patient and lazy man. I like that. You're hired."

:D But that's not abusing the system, that's a genuine reason for doing a FAS course.

I volunteered in a state run home when I was in school (because my mum was working there) & they had FAS workers on these schemes. Unless something has changed, there are 'incentives' for taking part in these schemes. Also bar 1 or 2, they did f-all, only worried about getting their time card stamped.

FAS is so full of corruption its terrifying. It’s a money pit that should be disbanded. I'm not saying we don’t need something, but something less corrupt would be nice! Also now that we have so many people who actually want to work out there on the dole, maybe its time to stop focusing encouraging the people who don't want to work & giving them preference. Just a thought.

Write a strong letter cc'ing the Irish times. Make sure you include the words corrupt, unfair, discriminatory and the phrase "in this current climate". cc the C&AG for the fun of it.

Id be happy to work for less than the dole, I'm 22 just finished college for the summer. Living out of home for the last 2 years little too no support from the parents. Worked full time for over a year and during summer holidays and always worked part time with secondary school/college from the age of 15.

Lost my Job in December was getting a grant so that kept me but now that's finished up and I'm told I cant sign on for 3 months after college. I've applied for every job possible since the start of the month and no luck nice stack of sincere rejection letters though.

Down to that clinic in cork where they give you money to test out new drugs if nothing shows up in a the next few weeks......
