Where do you put your sunglasses...?

... when you're out on the bike and what was a bright, sunny sky turns into a slate-grey canopy of sh*te?

I usually have my glasses on a string so I can hang them around my neck but I've been told this can be dangerous if you have a spill (shards of glass, your chest etc.) I've seen pro- riders keeping their glasses on top of their helmets but haven't been able to figure out how to do this.

    Any thoughts...?

Helmet is where mine go... it really only works with specs with straight arms, and they go in two of the air vents at the front

Change the lenses for yellows, put the shaded ones back into your pocket. Tada!

Only take them off when it's raining, therefore stick in front pocket of gilet.

I used to do that too, but my new helmets doesn't let me. Now I have to wear my sunglasses, on my eyes ... as you do.

Good idea - cheers. Mine won't fit in the air vents - they just slip out (even though the arms are straight).

You still run the risk of broken glass grinding against your skin if you take a spill, no?

I can't get that to work. It would be easier if I had a nose on the back of my head. There would probably be downsides to that though.

Helmet designers and sun glass designers need to work together.

In to the air vents as others... I very rarely take them off though. Last time I did, it had gotten really dark all of a sudden in the middle of a race a few weeks back. Took sunglasses off and 5 seconds later i was getting an eyeful of hailstones... put them back on quicksmart.

Use clear ones when it's dark.

What SGs do you have? It helps if they have a tight fit. My Oakleys fit the back better than my cheapo dull weather glasses.

i don't think any sports sunglasses are made of glass. oakleys aren't anyway - and they're near impossible to break

    Nope, all plastic.

Last Saturday I discovered I need to wear glasses even in the darkest of skies. When I got home (from Sally Gap/Kippure), I had a piece of grit in my eye for about 5 hours. I watched the Heineken Cup final through floods of tears, but for all the wrong reasons...

Really? I'll be referring to them as sunplastics from now on in that case.

Decathlon photo chromatic ones at the moment. I can't do the back of the head thing, but as they're light reactive, I don't really need to.

I've only started wearing contacts + SGs when cycling so a whole new world of cycling paraphernalia is opening up before me. Oh yeah...

I often actually stick mine half in my jersey. It's usually zipped down a bit so I hang them vertically and have one arm out and the rest of them in. The only thing is that they might need a bit of de-sweating once it's time to stick them back on. Also, if I'm wearing a gilet, I'll stick it inside the gilet but outside the jersey and they end up in better condition.

I have a pair with interchangeable lenses. I find the yellow lens great in winter or poor light as they seem to brighten up the environment.
For a quick defog just slide them down your nose for more ventilation. For glasses with curved ends try turning them upside down before putting them in the helmet. If glasses are a tight fit you can put them on the back of your head or neck but you risk loosing them in high wind or fast down hill. Otherwise put them in a pocket or up your sleeve or down the side of your bib shorts or tights.

I bought a pair of triple lens sports glasses in Lidl or Aldi for under 10 Euro and i think they are great. They will surely be in there again before long.

I had the ones outta Aldi before with the triple lense.I loved the yellow lens but the lens didnt fit into the frame properly and one day i took them off to give them a quick wpie and the lens fell out.
then I just used the plain tinted lens but were too dark and ended up losing them as I has to keep taking them off when it got too overcast.
    Now I use these.
Non interchangeable but pretty good none the less.Crisp view and cheap as well.I have the soft semi-tint ones

I got something similar to these about 3 years ago and they're really good.

I use them all the time when cycling because, there's nothing worse than watching €180 sliding off your nose and under the back wheel...

I have a pair of oakleys with 'transitions' lenses. They do a decent job of adapting to the changes in weather and lighen/darken to the amount of sun. In the brightest of sunlight they could do with a little more tint, but otherwise are really good. Great for running and golf too..

My oakleys go upside down, arms into the air vents on the front of the helmet.

I'm surprised this method is not a Euro rule...

These have lots of interchangeable lenses and I have found them fairly robust

They suit the farmers tan that I begain to develop last Sunday. Please god let it be a good summer
