    Hi all,

Looking into costs right now for shipping products around Ireland.

My packages weigh around 4kg with 40 X 40 cm square and a depth of around 15cm.

Looking for experiences of reasonable rates of couriers you have used with good delivery times (1 - 3 days is fine).

Posted a 2.6KG package to Greece this afternoon with An Post, inc. registered post, 40 euro. Thought it was a bit steep, with a 6 day delivery too.

    looking forward to your comments.

    fastway couriers.

We use them all the time. Packages upto 30kg in weigh cost 12.00 a piece (i think thats inc vat...cant remember...?)

You pre-pay for a booklet of 20 tickets, call them when you need stuff collecting and away it goes, generally next day delivery within ireland. Best thing about them is there is no such thing as pay-per-weight like DPD or An Rip Off Post

And that rate only applies if you are sending under 20ish packages per week. Prices go as low as about 6.00 quid.

Best of luck with it all,

DPD for me is 7.00 plus vat all Ireland and as many boxes as you want on the one consignment (unlike fastway) up to 25kg . I switched from Fastway after some bad customer service. Other good thing about dpd is you dont pay upfront for shipping labels, its pay as you use.

Reductions available for large quantities, also do drop rates....€9.50 up to 5ctns.

We moved to Fastway about 2 years ago and have been delighted with them. Good prices, reliable service. Our local driver here in Limerick in particular is very good.

Only drawback is that they don't do international deliveries.

My local driver was excellent, it was the rest of the organisation we had problems with especially in the West.

We used fastways for years while our local pickup guys were lovely some of the other drivers around the country were shocking several parcels were lost on us which took over 6 months to get refund for.

switched to DPD for better price, International deliveries and no upfront payment

I would be interested to learn the rates for Ireland and UK with DPD.

€7.00 is not bad. Includes NI?

    Thanks Tony!
What is your average daily volume?

Hard to say in this climate but usually 20 to 30 per week. DPD originally quoted less then 7 euro based on volume of 50 consignments per week. With higher volumes they will also give you a computer and label printer which looks very professional imho.

    That's excellent info Tony!

I was given 1st quotes of £5.00 for NI & £8.50 for SI.

I knew and felt that the £8.50 was far too high.

I was also told that the computer terminal is given if one does 15 packages per day.

How much lower if 50 packages per week - I shall be contacting the local rep again next week to renegotiate some more preferable terms!:)

There are co's in the UK getting rates for Ireland of £7.00, pity we cannot get a similar price going the other way!

My pleasure. Yes similar rates to the Uk would be great. In the current climate I think the rep should give you a better deal and as long as reliability and tracking are good thats the main thing. I use actinic software to run my website and the dpd software allows import of info direct from the received order onto the label with the customers contact number and DPD will also email the customer with the local depot so if they miss the delivery for any reason they can call to the depot if its urgently required. There does seem to be some disparity with NI rates as one of my wholesalers uses DPD and they were charging more so now I get the stuff collected on my account.
