I'm homestudying for the December ACCA sitting, does anyone have advice on what books or other resources are available for the Irish variant of F4 Law and F6 Taxation? I know from searching boards that there are some options there, but I'm looking for specific recommendations. Also if anyone has up to date Irish variant books that they've finished with, please get in touch!

    Thanks!!

    Hi,

BPP do an Irish variant Law book which seems to be the best - a lot of the others seem to be just lecturers notes compiled together in a folder. I also got a book in the library by Eaven Murphy ('Corporate and Business Law' I think) and kept renewing it for a few months(!) which was excellent. Generally I prefer to read books rather than study texts due to the style of writing etc.

For tax the standard text seems to be by Mel Kilkenny. BPP used to give you his number and you contact him directly to order - 100e all in for the text and revision kit to be posted out to you - but as he now teaches in Independent Colleges Im not sure if they still do this.

I used the BPP book and exam kit and i thought they were good. I had done most of the co law in IATI with the Eaven Murphy book which is grand except receivership and some other parts are better covered in the BPP one plus some parts aren't even in it that you will need. The BPP exam kit isn't really necessary to be honest - get as many past exam papers online as you can and it will be just as good, esp if you don't just use ACCA ones. The exam kit gets kind of too repetitive cos they've a lot of the same point questions from different years in it.

F6 - i did classes in Griffit for this and the lecturer chose to use the Tom Conlan's Student's Tax Handbook plus a load of his own question booklets for study and revision. Book itself is good, trouble is there's too much in it for the F6 as in some parts are way too detailed and are not part of ACCA syllabus so steer clear of this one for home study unless you want my book where the irrelevant parts are crossed out :-)

Julie Hawkin's in DBS produces a manual specifically for P6 and I found it fantastic - exactly the way she would lecture in class. I tried Mel's book but the number of errors got very annoying so i binned it.
