removing glue/adhesive - stuck

I can't find an answer to this - if anyone knows of one already posted can you link me to it.

I have windows with glue/adhesive on them and a front door handle where I can't get the tape of it - the glue will not dissolve. I have tried hot soapy water but it does not work. The windows were covered with a cling film like product to protect them from plastering/painting. The tape was put on the door handle for similar reasons.

    Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks in advance

Bit of white spirts will take it right off.

    We have tried:

A stanley knife blade to scrape it off
    White spirits
    WD40
    Hot soapy water

What about a dab of petrol on a cloth and give it a rub?

yes - we also tried petrol and noticed it removed the cover of door knobs and some handles. Very powerful stuff though

    try acetone first.

    No luck?

Then try Soudal PU foam remover which can only be bought on-line - 1 small tub should do plenty. Test a small area first.

    Further update on this:

WD40 removes the adhesive from windows but has problems in removing the adhesive/glue from the tape that is on the door handle. The tape used seems to have some sort of string through it - must be a strong tape. It does remove the adhesive/glue but not easily and leaves some behind.
I have some handles and glass on test and will update accordingly.

Failing this the acetone etc.. will be next on the agenda

Thanks for all the help so far.

Maybe try heating the glue up with a hair dryer to losen it up a bit?

methylated spirits is good for removing adhesive

You could try a steamer or if you don't have one want boil a kettle directly under the glue the steam will remove a lot of things just be careful of your fingers.

Failing that try some cellouse thinners that's pretty good stuff too dries very fast so be careful with it...

For further information: I've tried several methods and it would seem TEC 7 cleaner is the best. Requires a sharp blade for scraping and a good cloth for rubbing down. Window then needs to properly washed afterwards as normal but more thoroughly than normal. Also tried Hilti gun & foam remover and this was quite good as well
