I want to hook my Fender Blues Deluxe up to a cab...

I'm pondering getting an extension cab over the next few months for my 40 wt blues deluxe amp (1 speaker). I know that Fender make a cab specifically for the amp, but any other idea what I could combine it with? I'm thinking along the lines of a 2X12 cab.

A 2x12 would probably go well with it. :)

Check out http://www.tubetown.de They sell cabs, although without speakers. You can get exactly what you want and then pick up some nice speakers for it. It'll probably come in cheaper than buying the Fender counterpart while looking and sounding nicer. :D

    Here's their Fender-ish one... http://www.tube-town.net/ttstore/product_info.php/info/p3343_TTC-American-Series-2x12.html

You can even specify the tolex colour and grille colour you want. Also whether it's open or closed back. Personally if I was getting one I'd get a flex back.

cheers Dord. I'm not worried if it looks the same or not as my amp. I'm more worried about the sound etc. I'll ponder over that site for a month or so...:)

EDIT: Looks like the way to go!! Now, what speakers could I get....

I have found that slightly darker speakers work well with blackface(ish) circuits.

The Cannabis Rex by Eminence gets an awful lot of love in conjunction with Blackface circuits. I haven't used it, but I have used a Tone Tubby hempcone and that is mighty fine indeed. For a bit more, you could even get a Tone Tubby Ceramic.

A Celestion G12M would also be a good option (though Celestions take a long time to break in).

As for the flex back cab, I have found it to work ok, but at higher SPL levels the back of the cab comes off of its own accord so it has to be taped in place.

Edit, just realised that the Blues Deluxe is tweed style. In which case I would recommend an Alnico speaker of some sort (The Jensens are quite nice, the Celestion Gold and Blue are really nice but pricey) in combination with something slightly darker like a Greenback or something.

What style of music do you play?
Speakers have a bigger than you'd expect affect on tone.

Speakers like the Alnico Blue and G12M greenback will sound great for blues, but you'll find a lack a low end definition for hard rock. G12Hs and G12T-75/65s would work better here.

If you want more bite and punch in the mids then a V30 will work really well.

A 2 X 12 will also afford you the option of mixing speaker types. My "rock/metal" 2 X 12 has a V30 and G12H which gives me a nice mix of defined lows and punchy mids. Doesn't sound that great for blues though.

These are all Celestions, Jensenn is the more traditional Fender speaker but I know f*** all about them.
Dunno about now but traditionally Vox and Marshall used Celestion as they were made in the UK and so were cheaper. Fender used Jensenn as they were American, nothing to do with tone and eveything to do with economics.
Things have changed now as they all seem to be made in China!! :)

Dords suggestion of Tube Town is a good one, great quality and very reasonable prices. They also sell Celecstion and Eminence speakers. You'll just need a Phillips head screwdriver to fit the speakers.

mainly indie type music, Swervedriver etc, I have some pedals if I want to go into the post rock territory,

not sure off my head what speakers are in the fender extension cabs...

There's an extension cab for the fender hot rod deluxe.. expect only single speaker.

I have my hot rod deluxe running completely through a marshall 1960A. Sounds great and i play indieish/post rock music:pac:

don't you have to take into account ohms etc. for speakers and matching them to amps. I assume it's just a case of copying the fender deluxe specs when choosing he right speaker combo...

I have them matched. Have an open plug going into my main speaker output and have speaker cable going from extension cab out into the 4 ohm input. Still plenty of volume (enough for gig anyway) and tone and works well for me

Actually I was just looking on the site further and apparently if you buy a cab and speaker(s) from them in one go they'll fit them and wire it up. :)
