    Hi All

My father purchased one of the Silvercrest 80cm Lidl packages today and we're having problems setting it up.

We're not getting any satellite signal

    The Signal intensity is 70%
The Signal Quality is only 14%

We have tried every direction and angle and have tried in positions at the front and back of the house, however the situation hasnt improved and every scan of the satellites has proved negative.

*edit* We have the "satellite finder" thing connected also and that emits a rather high pitched tone, but we dont know if that indicates we're in signal or not?

If anyone has any tips/suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Hi,

Are you allowing enough time for the satellite to tune in before you move position of the dish each time.

Indeed I am though its a pain.
    is it the signal quality?

With Lidl Systems I personally do the factory default when installing it. Then goto in the installation setup and select Astra 2 @ 28.2 east. They very often come aligned for multible sat and so wouldnt be great using their onscreen signal levels.

Hi, having same problem as Mr.Inferno. Redone connections several times, adjusted sat position etc Still no joy.
Funny thing is when i disconnect the coax between LNB and receiver, ok the signal intensity is gone but signal quality remains at 14.

Very frustrated. If all else fails might turn if into a big bird bath. Need help before i turn it into a giant frisbee!

you can get intensity readings when nothing is going in, just not a reading that is significant

First time set up of a staellite dish is a very frustrating one but when you get it done right, it gets much easier the next time you do it.

For a start, are you sure you're locking onto Astra 2 as there are about 22 satellites in that portion of the sky that will give you a signal reading, just not the one you want though. Astra 2 is approximately in the portion of the sky where the sun is between 10 am and 11 am.

Use dishpointer.com to get the proper azimuth for your dish based on your own location and then get yourself a compass to help align the dish to this heading. A satellite metre would also be a good and inexpensive buy. Once you have the correct azimuth locked in, adjust the elevation of the dish and finally the skew of the lnb itself to about the 7 o'clock position when looking at it.

Finally, when adjusting a dish, any movements should be measured in milimetres and then wait for a new reading on your receiver/satellite metre. Yanking the dish around all over the place will not get you anywhere as I found out after several wasted hours. Have a little patience and you'll get there.

Try this link for a video of how to do it:-

    Good luck

Hi guys, got the thing working. Press ok button, used v-and vol+ to choose required satellite.( In my case astra 28.2) Pressed info button to check signal intensity and quality. Hooked up sat beeper beside satellite and used it to find the high pitch which denotes dish receiving a satellite. Came accross many sats until i found the right one and the signal intensity and quality went right up. Hey presto. Before i was using the beeper locking onto a satellite, not knowing which one, then manually adjusting after that and getting nowhere.

I know, stupid is as stupid does...... or something like that.

Well i got there and now its goodbye ntl.

Ps I ve 3 kids under 4 , i never get to watch tv anyway. Doh.....;)

Echo ALL of the above by Prosperous Dave good explanation , i locked on to the wrong sat , perfect signal strenght , no picture , but i was doing it by line of sight etc , its so easy to lock onto the wrong sat and a great signal strenght without having a picture to view :D
