Who gives you feedback?

Besides for posting your songs here, who do you get to give you feedback on your songs? I havent told my friends properly that I write songs yet, but I send one of my friends some of the lyrics over MSN and she does tell me honestly what she thinks. She just told me she doesnt like the first "bit" of one "thing" [ silly her] I wrote, and she likes the second I wrote. I gave her an alteration of the same song, where it was changed halfway through, and she didnt like it at all, but told me what to change.

Now, I understand a lot of people who care about you wouldnt be able to tell you this about something you like, because you made it. This is why those people on the X Factor who really believe they could win when we end up laughing at them on our sofas exsist. They werent given the proper feedback they deserved. So, the question is, who gives you your feedback?

I don't trust ANYone I know except those I trust to not be honest! People I know are too nice and those that aren't are usually overly harsh because they feel it makes them seem they know something they don't. I try and find random people and also music related people of different levels who don't really know you. Tell them you want them to be honest, you're looking for input, not a pat on the back. I have found you get more honest answers from non Irish musicians and business people as it seems Irish people are more worried about hurting someone's feelings which I suppose makes sense seeing as its a tiny island and we're usually separated from people by one to two people.

I want to point out, this is my experience.
