my rent is 388.50 a month, but the rent allowance maximum limit is 285.
i took a twin room as im 25, from tipperary and i moved to letterkenny. when i came up to find somewhere to live, anywhere that was under the 66euro a week was either a tiny room in a house or had no storage space.
i took a twin room as it gave me a little breathing room to bring more stuff with me as i cant afford to travel up and down every week like most student's. im talking about clothes horse space, my computer for college work etc. just enough space in the room to live in a basic sense.
im in student accomodation and im pretty stuck on this.
is there any circumstances they make allowances for people in situations like myself? i probably cant afford to continue in college if i dont get the rent allowance. when i was back in tipperary i went to the rent office, and they said it shouldn't be a problem, but she never told me there was a limit on how much i can rent for a month.
im not looking for much, just something to ease the burden on the cost of living here.
it works out at 84 a week.the limit is 66. its not a huge difference!
i dont see why there's a limit as im in student accomodation and its extremly cheap compared to what else is available. would they make exceptions?

if i dont get it, then my only option is to move out, loosing the 450 deposit i paid, take out a loan to pay a new deporit, and move into a much smaller room for less than 66 a week.

    any advice is most appreciated!

from what i know they dont make allowances if thats the limit they will tell you to just find something cheaper what you can do is ask the landlord to say the rent is that amount and pay the balance yourself

you can ask your landlord to put a lower rent on paper for sw so u get the rent allowance
i did the same with my last house

if your getting a student grant its ok to be over the limit ,but they will only give you what the limit is anything else you have to back yourself. if your not getting a grant i recommend doing what the lad above said if all this fails they will give you plenty time to find a new place.

Guys, be aware that lying to social welfare is fraud.

For obvious reasons boards.ie does not advocate social welfare fraud.

Above three posters be warned - posting what ye did is a banable offense... so don't do it again.
