For my Trek 4500 Mountain bike. I broke a couple of spokes and rather than get it repaired I ordered a new wheel, cheaper and quicker, or so I thought.

I just spent an hour changing over the cassette but I can't get the tyre on:mad: I've measured the new and old diameter and the new wheel is 10mm in diameter larger.

Is this the correct wheel for a 26" Mountain bike? Customer support is now closed for the weekend at CRC.

discontiued item..you sure thats the wheel? you do have to push the bead of the tyre into the rim, they are never the same size in a MTB

Yes positive, It was on special offer and is now discontinued.

No problem taking the tyre off, no tools needed. I can't even get the tyre close even with levers and a lot of force.

    Thanks Kona.

    According to Sheldon...

    26" MTB wheel has a 559mm BSD.
    A 700c road wheel has a 622mm BSD.

    Old wheel BSD = 560mm

New wheel BSD = 570mm

Thanks Lumen. Going to head in to Halfords now to see what they have. I won't be spending a lot as cheap wheels can be had on CRC.

Well, youve seen a good reason not to buy cheap wheels. What size tyres do you have? Unless they are waaaaaay off, im sure any mechanic could put them on.

Sometimes some air in the tube can help

    According to Sheldon's chart, that's most likely a 650c triathlon/shortarse wheel (571mm BSD).

put the wheel in the frame bare, and see if the brakes line up with the rim.

    Thanks guys,

Didn't buy in Halfords, I'll call CRC on Monday and see what they have to say. The tyres are 26" mountain bike tyres and there is no way they are going on. Can't even get the first bead over. I can get these tyres fully on and off my MTB wheel without tools.

I know I bought cheap, It's only for my hack mountain bike, don't want to spend a lot on it as I'll probably replace it next year.
