I can't get rid of Securtiy Tool from my laptop, it keeps popping up telling me about the infections it found. I click continue unprotected but it keeps popping back up. How do I get rid of it?

it's a fake antivirus, a popular flavor of malware
get Spybot S&D or Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (free tools) - any of these removes it 100%

find the file , (the short cut on your desktop should be show you where it is you will have to make files visable ) it will not let you delete it so you need to rename it then re-start it is now disabled so you can delete it;)

I had the same annoying virus on my laptop. Its insanely irritating. This solution worked for me though. Firstly, restart your pc and select "Safe Mode" from the Boot menu. The PC restarts in safe mode. Click "Start" and "Run". When the window appears, type in the word "msconfig". Click "Startup" and then click "Disable all". Your PC will then have to be restarted. When it restarts, go to the Malwarebytes Antimalware website and download the free version (5 minutes on a reasonable BB connection). Install the download, and then run the subsequent scan. This will identify the Security Tools virus and you can then delete it. Restart your machine again in safe mode, and go to "Start", "Run", type "msconfig" click "Startup" and then "Enable All" to restore your Start Up files. Restart your machine again in normal mode, and your PC will be back to normal. Hope this helps!

My daughter just got it too. Nothing seems to have worked so far and we have the useless McAfee installed and have been paying them a fortune over the years. When asked they just want more feckin money. How does one start it in safe mode ??

Have you tried renaming the file as described earlier in this thread? Worked a treat for me?

If you can't find that post, I could stick up a step-by-step.

The easiest way I suppose to start in safe mode is to hold down the power button until your pc switches off (5-6 seconds) Then restart it and when the boot menu pops up it should ask you which mode you want to restart in (ie Normal, Safe etc) due to the unexpected shut-down. Select the safe mode. Alternatively, when you are re booting your PC after a normal shut-down, you can hit F2 or F12 (i think) to bring up the boot menu. I stress to say I am not a PC expert by any means, I'm only letting people know what worked for me by trial and error. There may be someone far more qualified than me you can tell you what to do.

These viruses and malware are far, far smarter and nastier than that.

If you want your problems solved properly, read the "I think I have a virus" - Please Read & Try BEFORE Posting (Updated 12/02/2010) sticky, carry out as many steps in that as possible and then start a new thread. Someone properly qualified will help but only once those steps have been followed.

Nasty and all as they might be, the fact remain: I had the Security Tool programme going beserk on a laptop; I followed the renaming procedure laid out here somewhere; I no longer have the Security Tool programme on that laptop.

I think that means it worked. ;)

Appears to have worked. Like I said they're far smarter than you realise.
