After parading around the entrance and comparing them selfs on their site to the late great Bobby Sands. (Which was offensive to say the least).

They Disappear with no press . Web site closed .

    What happened??

Can't have been stopped due to the weather, they'd be well used to the cold in the frozen foods section.

Edit: Okay.. hunger strike... thought it was just a picket..

Green Isle has changed its name to Soylent Green Isle, so that they could have more worker participation in the business.

hehehe. I was feeling sorry for them a few of those evening in the cold snap.

I was reading just now, one of the lads who joined the strike was relying on green isle to renew his working visa.
    What a dope.
He has a family who will more than likely be all sent home after him because of his strike.
guess people in massive glass houses should not throw stones

As far as i remember, of the three striking, two either got their jobs back, or the settlement they wanted and the third was sent back to thailand for not having a legal working visa..

So everyone's happy.. bar Gok Wong

    ' Don't build a massive glass house '

They possibly settled and the 'dope' you are referring might possibly have been represented and because he striked might have gotten his work visa extended as part of the settlement.

He might not and might have to leave the country but greenisle are not his keeper and master. He is not their little refugee from lativa or mexico.

It will be a crying shame if it gets like America now where people are illegal aliens if they stand up and strike or join a union.

They came to some secret agreement with the company. They didn't get their jobs back.

One of the hunger strikers, who was a foreign national on a work permit was told to leave the country.
The others will be eating expensive steaks for a couple of years, but will most likely never secure paid employment again.

Doubt they wanted their jobs back in fairness after they were treated.

They may well find it hard to get employment for a while (the way things are and all) but there are plenty of companies that don't treat their workers badly and would have nothing to fear from employing these men. Alternatively they might go into business together using their settlement money as start up capital. I don't know what they'll do, just think its a little unfair to say they'll be ostracised from the workforce from now on.

It was settled. The problem focused on the fact that the company refused to accept the Labour Relations Court suggestions and that the workers in question were aware of an impending redundancy, as well as the fact that it wasn't completely proven that the alleged pornographic material that was sent to them from an external address via email was solicited.

The company found itself in the uncomfortable position of an unfair dismissals claim on the basis that it used this scenario as an excuse to fire workers it wanted to dismiss anyway in order to get away without having to follow the proper procedures.

While viewing pornography at work is reprehensible to most people, dismissing people for doing it is still on a legal thin line. I understand that the entire situation was settled amicably.

I dont understand what ya mean?

would being sacked for watchin porno at work not be the proper procedure?

Jasus. Its not really the time . or place to be at that carryon. Would hate to think the same lads where handling my food.

Unions took this further than it needed to go.

None of them reinstated to their jobs as there was so much resentment towards them as the their anti GI campaign put the rest of the employees jobs at risk. Majority of the factory was in support of the company.
A few got a minimum payout.
    Still no union recognition

Result for GI factory is now back to normal and running better than ever.
Result for strike organisers, total failure.

If your where looking for hard working peeps to work for you. Would you choose these ones. You would run a mile from them..

If they did not have the sense to hold on the there jobs, when near half a million peeps are out of work. Then i doubt they have the savy to start there own company. really. think about it.

    What are you on about?

They were sent porn to their PCs as they had no web access and then demissed. This happen after one of them was given access, by mistake, to a list of redundancies the company was seeking.

They were getting fúcked over by Green Isle.

It was well proven that all the porn was brought in via USB keys, DVD’s and external email. One of the main breaking points was when the file showing content and proof was presented at the negotiation talks.

Your point about the unfair dismissal is rubbish.

im very douptful if these fact are showin the real picture.

Dont get me wrong. Im a worker. not management.

But if your need to make redundancies then thats what you do. Why make up a make believe story?

GI would have been in there right to make redundancies if they needed to.

Another thing to consider is this.

If you are a good productive and useful worker . Then a company will do there best to keep you.

    .
