I'm looking for some advice, I'm looking to buy a motorized satellite system. I'm interested in receiving as many English language free to air channels as possible, I also need the system to be able to pick up 24.5°w intelsat 905 for the Spanish channels. I was looking into the following systems, I'd be grateful if anybody has any recommendations on a good motorised system. Thanks in advance.

Spanish channels are on 19E or 30W

the 1.2m dish in your link is way to big.

a 80cm dish should do fine.

Thanks for your reply. There are Mexican channels on Intelsat 905 @ 24.5° West that I want to get, what size dish would I need to receive good quality?

Try here http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/atlantic.html but I doubt you could pick up Mexican channels in Ireland. The beam will be focused on North/Central America.

I read up about Mexican TV on the following french site. Question to any of the satellite experts, is it possible to receive Intelsat 905 24.5°W in Ireland? TIA.

"A package of six mexican channels is now available throughout Europe :
Clásico TV, DE PELÍCULA , CANAL DE LAS ESTRELLAS, RITMO SON LATINO, TELEHIT, TL NOVELAS, The six channels of the Mexican package are broadcast from Intelsat 905 (24.5°W) - position with the following parameters: freq: 11626.00 H -13500 7/8 and all you need is a minidish!"

I really don't want to stir sh!t up like a previous thread so all I will say is have a look around.......a good look around before you buy.

Thanks, advice is appreciated. I'm clueless about what receiver to buy, anybody have any recommendation on a good receiver I can use with a motorized dish. TIA.

Any receiver with disecq built in will run a diseq motor for you for dishes up to 1m usually depending on the motor. A lot of guys use technomate here and seem pretty happy.

@azzeretti I'm pretty sure (subject to mods approval of course) theres no problem in posting links to to suppliers you think are good value. Not sure what the problem was in the previous thread you referred to?

Tony - To be honest I don't feel it's fair for me to derail a thread everytime with examples of good value. The thread I was referring to was a similar one to this were I asked if what I was looking at was good value. There was another poster, who also runs a shop, (certainly not yourself) who got very stroppy for me pointing out the value difference and not purchasing from him.

I have noticed that some of the Irish prices seem to have come down a bit lately which is most welcome.

Well dont want to derail the thread myself but I see no reason why you should not post up what you think is good value, its then up to the OP to decide where he wants to buy. I think its useful and part of the commercial process to see what other retailers are offering thats what competition is all about in my view. This forum is I believe supposed to be about giving good information. Its true it is very difficult to get near the prices that some companies in EU are offering for various reasons I wont bore you with but in the end the end user must decide which way he wants to go. Restricting information here will not stop guys buying outside ROI it just makes the forum a little less useful in my view.

Tony, thanks for all your advice. I would be willing to pay locally for the equipment just for the warranty point of view, if anything breaks I won't have to ship it back and the warranty should cover the equipment. However I don't understand why the installation charges are so high, €299 which costs more than the actual equipment.

Well its actually 247 if you take off the VAT (thats another story) and its really beacuse a well installed motorised system takes a great deal longer and not every installer can do them correctly so supply and demand comes into play. A lot of guys here have done their own installs though but it does take time and patience for a first timer, having said that if you do most of the install work and just need the motor aligned it should be much cheaper if you have the mount facing in the right direction.

I've done some research online over the past 24 hours and have decided to put my own package together. I've just ordered the following on amazon.co.uk, what do you guys think of these choices.

    Technomate TM-6800 HD - £151.95
    Technomate 2600 H-H DiseqC Motor - £43.95
    Postage & Packing: £29.95
    Order Total: £225.85

There is also an Irish Company that will do (arrange) for an nationwide motor install service for less than you got above. PM if you need the details.

    Cheers, PM sent.

The 6800 Hd is excellent but you might also consider the 6900 combo and get Irish DTT as well. Dont forget to price in the dish cabling and wall mount.

Edit: another bonus of ordering from amazon is they pay Irish VAT

I was looking into the Technomate TM-6900 but its £235, I think I got a good deal on the Technomate TM-6800 at £152, considering I saw it on an Irish shop for €385  funnily enough the same shop sells the TM-6900 for €389.

Its an exceptionally good price so would not be too harsh on the Irish shop

The price was too good to pass on, however I will still be buying my remaining items from one of the Irish shops, ie disk, mount, lnb and so on.

Thats great but if you are getting installation too you will most likely get a better deal if you get both from the same place.
