    He has to go.

If the top of an organisations is rotten then how can it ever be fixed. He has lost all authority.

Surely there is a way to sack the pope?

    TIME TO SACK THE POPE

♫ But there's Panic on the streets of Carlisle
    Dublin, Dundee, Humberside
    I wonder to myself

    Burn down the vatican
    Sack the blessed Pope
Because the prayers that they constantly pray
IT SAYS NOTHING TO ME ABOUT MY LIFE ♫

A Pope cannot be fired, but he can resign his office, so long as it is not done under duress.

    Under Durex?

Historically a pope was sacked by murder and replaced by usually an even worse figure. But we don't want to go that far, won't we?

    But he could step down:
Canon 332, Paragraph Two, provides for a papal resignation, allowing the pope to step down whenever he wishes and without asking anyone for permission. But in the long history of the Catholic Church, it is extremely uncommon. Pope Celestine V was the most recent church leader to resign -- 700 years ago.

He won't, though. He believes in his (self)-rightiousness and thinks all critique is just idle chitchat, which won't touch him a bit, as he pointed out in his sermon today.

Yep, John Paul is held in such high regard no one will come out and say what most people with an ounce of common sense already know. John Paul was responsible for covering up a litany of abuse and this guy has to deal with the consequences. Brothers indeed.

He'd only resign if the Holy Trinity came down from heaven and told him to his face that he has to go. So... not going to happen

Partly right, the present pope actually worked for the previous one and "Ratzinger" also actually as head on an internal organisation (Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith*), drew up the rules for the rest of the world to follow.
That included the rules issued to the priests that abuses were to be kept still within the church and not to be reported outside it.

    * On 25 November 1981, Pope John Paul II named Ratzinger Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, formerly known as the Holy Office, the historical Inquisition. Consequently, he resigned his post at Munich in early 1982. He was promoted within the College of Cardinals to become Cardinal Bishop of Velletri-Segni in 1993, was made the College's vice-dean in 1998 and dean in 2002.

In office, Ratzinger fulfilled his institutional role, defending and reaffirming Catholic doctrine, including teaching on topics such as birth control, homosexuality, and inter-religious dialogue. Leonardo Boff, for example, was suspended, while others were censured. Other issues also prompted condemnations or revocations of rights to teach: for instance, some posthumous writings of Jesuit priest Anthony de Mello were the subject of a notification. Ratzinger and the Congregation viewed many of them, particularly the later works, as having an element of religious indifferentism (i.e., Christ was "one master alongside others").

The Congregation is best known for its authority over the teaching of Church doctrine, but it also has jurisdiction over other matters, including cases involving the seal of the confessional, clerical sexual misconduct and other matters, in its function as what amounts to a court. In his capacity as Prefect, Ratzinger's 2001 letter “Crimen Sollicitationis” which clarified the confidentiality of internal Church investigations into accusations made against priests of certain crimes, including sexual abuse, became a target of controversy during the sex abuse scandal. While bishops hold the secrecy pertained only internally, and did not preclude investigation by civil law enforcement, the letter was often seen as promoting a coverup. The Pope was accused in a lawsuit of conspiring to cover up the molestation of three boys in Texas, but sought and obtained diplomatic immunity from prosecution.

Ara shur if he was to go, he'd probably be entitled to a big golden handshake which could ruin the........

Oh yeah, sorry, this is the Catholic church we're on about, they're loaded so it'll be fine. Give him a few million and send him off to Thailand for his retirement.

Bring in Obama then, he'd sort it out for sure.

I mean I've heard plenty of people ask is the pope catholic before, or does he wear a funny hat, so that must mean he doesn't have to be.
Shur yer woman mother theresa was an atheist one of the lads was telling me last night;)

Agenda much? While he was in the Hitler Youth - so was every other youth in Germany at the time, it was national policy so he had no choice. As for paedophile, where the hell are you getting that from? Link to sources to back up you libellous claims or GTFO.

BTW I'm not defending the church, more attacking rubbish disinformation. The truth will out, as they say.

Doesn't matter. The abuses of the church will continue until people cop on and start to realise that their fairy tales aren't true. Surely. For the sake of science and progress. Just stop pretending. Please.

Just stop practising the Roman Catholic's archaic, backward practices and then the pope and all his cronies are fired from our minds :)
