Right, buying a car soon, first car as it is. I have a confession, aesthetics are important to me. However that said Ford Focuses are too good to rule out based on looks.

Suppose you had an 00 Focus, and 1000 euro, what would you do to try and make it look less like mummy had loaned you her car, and more like you were an 18 year old student. On another note, I don't want to go over the top, gotta be tasteful.

Do you already have the car or about to buy one?

If you haven't bought yet I would go for a black Focus hatch with alloys like this one:

    And there rotton!

Get some St alloys on it and get it lowered, if it has fogs change them for the St ones as well.

Then get the strips and door handles sanded down and sprayed, add in the standard spoiler if it doesn't have it and job done.

Make sure its a 3 door too, they look far nicer

    3 door Zetec.

ST alloys but if they are too costly, a set of the 15 inch 5 spokes will do fine. Basically a 3 door version of this is a good start.

Spoiler, colour code the rubbing strips, change the fogs, secondhand cd player from a crashed one if you don't already have one. There's actually loads of bits and pieces you can get for them in fairness. OEM looks best on Fords though for some reason.

Ah I remember my old student days. I was delighted with my fiesta 1.01 (no alloys). Times are a changing...

When he's going to have to park next to utterly unloved battered 15yo festies and puntos every day? The strips will be kind of important.

the squishiness of the plastic/rubber will still stop marks even when painted, provided they use the right primer.

Here's the mk1 and mk1.5 side by side with an example of what you can do. Smoked front and side indicators and painted headlights. A bit of colour coding too.
