hey all,I have posted up here a few times looking for Judo clubs in my area,But all i seem to find is clubs that are maybe 1 hour away such as tralee. I used to be part of the Kilrush Judo club (Clare)but it disbanded a few years ago.

When i posted here before i received alot of people intersted in Judo in the Limerick area, but still no club,

Why doesnt a Black belt come out of the shadows and set something up??plz

    Sean

I got made redundant a while ago, and ended up back in with my parents in Ennis. The primary thing that got me up and motivated to get a job was the lack of a judo club within a reasonable commute of their house.

OP you could contact the Irish Judo Association and ask them if there's anyone in or around the area who you can contact.

Even if you generate an interest in Judoka in the area so far as I'm aware you don't need a black belt to run a club/training group, but you will need one to do your grading and one who is a grading officer with the IJA.

As as example, there's a white belt in Athlone who has started a Judo training group, he found some graded East Europeans to come and give instruction to him and his guys.

Is this an idea which might run down that way?.

Are you sure about this? I've never come across/heard of somthing like this before. I know its common in BJJ, its how the IJA was founded and its quite possibly its still there, but Ive never seen it in recent years.

Never seen what? a non-black belt teachng judo? It's very rare because there are so many black belts.

Well Ive seen a brown belt coach the odd time, but Ive never seen a club been run without a black belt being the head coach. But as you said, its probably down to the amount of black belts.

I'm not sure how the IJA or Judo Ireland would see it, or if you'd be allowed affiliate your club to either association.

As I said, I know there's a white belt in Atlone. Outside of that I've no idea what the official line is on it.

All anyone needs to do is rent a hall and invite people to train (and probably work something out with public liability insurance). It's not like anyone can stop someone doing this based on belt colour (if they've even been awarded a belt in the first place).

Association affiliation is another thing of course, but it's better to have an independent club than none at all IMO.

    W. Power and some other lads are going running a Judo class in UL for the summer. Starting 16th June, every Wed night. Don't know the time, I'll ask him when I see him.
