    Hmm, lets not hope for it to be too awful, yea? Car crashes, not getting to work (and not getting paid), flu, colds, lack of light etc etc...

    Winter evenings! you will get to work, unless you work nights then tough!
    Does more car crashes occur in winter?

    No idea, but I would think so, due to the lack of light and the road conditions. Plenty more small crashes, like little bumps and that, definately.

    We better get snow this year. I love snow!
    Hopefully it won't be as icy as it was last winter though; that was lethal. :(

    The winter that just seemed to end a few weeks ago, to be replaced with monsoon season until October, was an absolute nightmare for me. Was my first Irish winter in 3 years and I can't begin to imagine getting through another one. How anyone can prefer it to summer is absurd.

    Me too. But after 6 or 7 months of em, im more than ready for the 18 odd hours of daylight we get now. Seasons are great. When ya start to get sick of em, they change. Must be awful to live in apart of the world where its more or less always the same. I relative home from Oz said its bright at 6am and dark at 6pm nearly all year round. Sounds crazy, and boring.

    Those moments in winter are indeed lovely and I absolutely love Christmas, but the reality for most of the season is a lot more grim IMO. Dark before 5pm, getting caught in the rain/cold, dark when you're getting up for work - it's miserable. And yeah, as someone mentioned, last winter was particularly awful. Didn't feel like it was over properly til early April.

    Ew... it was a bit like that this early June evening with the rain and premature darkness due to the grey clouds. Shudder... :(

    It's Snowing!!!!!!! \0/

    Sunshine on a rainy day or on a winters day is nice and apart from people who suffer with seasonal affective disorder , I think most of us are pretty good at adapting to the winter season ( not like we have much choice ) although last year by anybodys standards was extreme with the floods and water shortages - the downside .

    Yeah, I normally don't really mind the winter - I just get on with it - but the last one was so sh1t it made me feel a bit down-in-the-dumps all right. Just the sheer extremities of the cold and the rain.

    Last Winter was pretty damn extreme alright, I remember seeing how bad the floods were in Cork city, never seen anything like it. I also remember seeing a guy using the platform thing on truck as a platform for people to cross a flooded road. So in that respect, that kind of extreme weather can bring the best out of people.

    Then there was the cold. I remember at the start of Winter always seeing a display that show the time and temperature and was keen on seeing it read a negative temperature. Lesson learned: be careful what you wish for! Never seen anything like how long the cold went on for either.

    :cool:

    January brings the snow;
    Makes the toes and fingers glow.

    February brings the rain,
    Thaws the frozen ponds again.

    March brings breezes loud and shrill,
    Stirs the dancing daffodil.

    April brings the primrose sweet,
    Scatters daisies at our feet.

    May brings flocks of pretty lambs,
    Skipping by their fleecy dams.

    June brings tulips, lilies, roses;
    Fills the children’s hands with posies.

    Hot July brings cooling showers,
    Strawberries and gilly-flowers.

    August brings the sheaves of corn,
    Then the harvest home is borne.

    Warm September brings the fruit,
    Sportsmen then begin to shoot.

    Fresh October brings the pheasant;
    Then to gather nuts is pleasant.

    Dull November brings the blast,
    Then the leaves are falling fast.

    Chill December brings the sleet,
    Blazing fire and Christmas treat.

    I love winter.
    Big warm coats and fires.

    I got really into embracing the rain this year too, I just walked around getting soaked and I loved it. Then a lovely warm shower when I got home.

    Only ad thing about summer, Big Brother, which is starting... As I type this.
    Ah ****e, I wont be watching TV for a while.

    Another favourite part of winter for me is - a real freezing cold crisp morning ,when I see the fog of my breath and all the grass is white and crunchy and icey, and my nose is cold

    Oh, I forgot about fog, I love fog! :D

    I thought last winter was pretty awesome, came back from a couple of years away at christmas and I really enjoyed all the snow and the ice. It was like it was something special we were seeing, and I live in the country and couldn't leave the house for a couple of days but it was still cool. Might not have been so impressed if we had lost power however...

    But I do love a good coal and timber fire in the winter, satisfaction from building and from the reward. Will actually be chopping would next week for this weeks winter :)
    Can make yourself real cosy in winter and thats cool, I dont feel guilty like I do in the summertime if I spend an evening on my hole

    Maybe you should go to South Africa. The weather down there has been pretty miserable. For my part I want to enjoy the summer while it lasts and to heck with winter.

    I love that too - unfortunately it's a rare occurrence during an Irish winter.
