Like the ones in the UK ?

I think they are a great idea. No one will ever know the year of your car :D plus you get to keep the number for life.

I've seen them "adjusted". Personally I wouldn’t like to drive a car with F4NNY on the reg:D

    Not in a million years.

Ronaldo and a million Chavs can't be wrong?

The ultimate p*ss on me medal IMHO.

I'd rather spend that money on more important things to maintain my car tbh.

That was a big problem in China when they introduced personalised plates. There was a load of people who got very offensive plates before they realised the meaning of them!!

I like this one. Unfortunately the guy who owns the car was shot dead recently. pity as he had a Ferrari 360 with a similar reg too.

Thats an interesting point - is there many other countries that have private registrations?

South Africa. See above. You can get anything you want.

Think of the cash injection into the country if we did have them though. Lots of idiots spending big money to have them. Better than more tax imo

If you have the money and you want one I think that's ok?? Does that make you an idiot?? I doubt it.

Well personally I do. No matter how much cash I had, I could think of something far more useful to do with it than buy a personalised reg plate.

Even if the reg could appreciate in value or you could add value to your car if you wanted to sell it ?

Fair enough. I would get my plate to be "KOL" for sure and I would still have enough money left to do something useful. :)

If personalised plates were brought in it would have to be like the UK where you keep the plate for each car you own. So it wouldn't effect the value of the car. I have a friend who has a reg "Analysis" because that's the name of their business. It's of no value to anybody else.

Well, from my understanding, you don't sell the personalised reg along with the car.

The OH bought a car with a personalised reg but he had to change the plates. The plates stayed with the previous owner. Maybe that was because he wanted it that way, I don't know.

But anyway, my comment was in keeping with the general tone of the thread which was talking of D1CK and the likes.

And I could see it now. In fairness we all know the types that would go down for this sort of thing - the ones that already have one of each stick on accessory currently for sale in halfords. All kinds of crap emblazoned across the reg plate, as if there isn't enough of that on the windows and back quarter panels of their cars already.

But all the same it's a great idea to get a bit of spending going

Edit: When I say "the types that would go down for this sort of thing" I'm not saying that everyone who wants a personalised reg is like that. But what I am saying is I imagine that most tack merchants would only love a personalised plate.

True lol. I'd have to buy KOL 1 to 10!!! (for my car collection which is unlikely). Cheers Barr for making me realise I'll never be that rich!!!!

You can sell it with the car if you wanted. Alot of registrations are related to the type of car you drive.

You do see the odd Z4 and TT with 10-D-24 and 10-D 77 and the likes (made to look like Z4 and TT). It's a bit of a fad but if it makes people happy and who are we to poo poo them. We all have something that makes us happy no matter how mad it may seem to other people. (I am in a particularly tolerant mood this evening!!)

BTW when I am driving my 911 xx-D-911 I'll won't feel like a tack merchant!!!!:) (that wont be any time soon and the 911's I have looked at are already registered and they didnt have the 911 plate)

Personally hate some of the personalized plates you see in the UK. The likes of "BI6 BOY" and "T10AST" make me cringe but something simple and subtle looks OK.

I think the best thing the government could do is reduce the price of reserved plates to €250 or so. No one is buying them now at €1000 and rightly so, if they were at a reasonable price more people would invest in them.

Hah, the Govt. reduce the price on something :pac: .

What next you'll be saying they should have reasonable tax rates.

And anyway you of all people should be happy he's giving his money to the state so freely!

I know, wishful thinking  Absolutely insane how they more than tripled the price though, I'm happy it backfired.

Well even the people that buy new cars every few years and would usually reserve a plate have stopped. I'm talking about 911's, BMW's, Mercs, etc.

I've already told you once that I'm referring to comments made about people have ridiculous crap like F4NNY on their reg plates, not people with 911s having 911 so I won't say it again.

Thats fine for you by the way, all I'm saying is that I think its stupid (much the same opinion as you would have of my €150 handbag I'm sure) but if there are people willing to spend money on something in this country (even a F4NNY regplate) I for one would rather this than the current 'answer' to our problem which seems to be 'higher tax'

There's a very simple solution (courtesy VIZ Top Tips)
Simply change your name by deed poll to your registration number. BINGO! Personal number plate.

The same reason people buy brand new cars, with crappy engines and crappy spec.

I assume people buy them, just to have 10D on their reg number so the neighbours can say WOW....

But hiding the age of a car???
If you hide a age on 10 years old car, everyone will know anyway it's old as they don't do model like this anymore.

I think private plates would be nice just in the matter of the last part.
    Ex 04-D-MIKEY or 08-WH-TURBO

I would be happy to pay extra 100 or 200 euros for something like this.

When i moved over here 4 years ago i brought my Mondeo wit me, reg was P555PAD, rang the DVLA and said i'd be re-registering the car in Ireland and could i keep the plate on retention.

They said no problem, just re-register it and get back to them, bastards lied.

To get the plate back on retenetion i had to tax, insure and mot the car,, meaning a trip back to Wales.

Could have sold that for around 1,500 sterling :mad:
