i am looking at a car at the moment

the license plate is old on it and i want to check out the year and details

i have put the number into mywheels.ie and another site and they are not showing up

    it is an irish reg.

i posted about a similar reg some time ago on another site,i pm'd the number to a guy who said he would check it out for me,he did and contacted the owner and bought the car under my nose

therefore,i do not want to give the reg out.i want to check the year, model and engine of the car in question,i know the owner, but this one too important to risk

the tax office will only talk to the owner and i dont know his address.i want it all above board before i buy the car

Carchaeologist on here can tell the year if you post the plate number.

If the reg doesn't show up on Cartell or similar, it usually means the car was scrapped before 1993.

An old car that hasnt been taxed in a while may not be on the system.
you'll have to call around and ask to see the tax book, you'll want to see the car anyway.

Just post up the letters and say if the numbers are before or after the letters, the year and month of registration can be determined by anyone who has the list, mines at home so wouldn't be able to answer you straight away.

If it hasnt been taxed post '93 it wont show up on Mywheels etc.

No fear of that, shed full and wallet empty...

but if you put up the letters as someone suggested as example bli *** or as ***bli at least then you will have the year for the registeration , best of luck with the project

look up old irishcar registerations on wikipedia. at least that will give you the year and county

Actually the list I have was used by John Larkin on the IVVCC website so you can check the date of registration on that site if you don't want to post the letters even.

    thanks for the help guys

i tried a few old cars on cartell to see if they showed and they havent

one vw i have outside the door with taxbook and it says it doesnt exist

anyway the main reg in question is WZB **, 2 numbers under 30,so that would put it near in 1966 as far as i can decipher

    am i right?

Thats a late December '65 Cork county issue, first reg of '66 was WZB 68.

It makes no difference if you have the Taxbook,if it wasnt taxed or had a change of ownership done after 1993 if wont be on the computerised system. When you go in to either change it into your name or tax it it will then show.
