    Folks,

My 07 Passat has started to "beep" when I press the handbrake button and it takes a few times before the handbrake actually kicks in.

Just wondering if this is a common fault and is it likely going to be expensive?

Keep the handbrake off and park it in gear until you can get to a dealer. If you don't you'll get in to the car shortly and the hand brake won't come off.

I'd struggle to find one of the 100's of Passat's we have on fleet that hasn't had the hand brake button replaced.

Maintenance isn't my area though so I don't know the cost, nor whether they are covering them under goodwill.

That should solve your problem. Its amazing how many little bugs you can fix by just disconnecting the battery. Its a bit like restarting your PC.

Might as well post the fix here as well

unplug the battery for 10 minutes then plug it again then press the breaks for 35 seconds
after that, while pressing the breaks press the e-breaks for 10 seconds..
(( i think these are the right times ))
then the cars computer will restart and the problem will be fixed !!

Mike do you just press the brakes once and keep them pressed for 35 seconds?

Tried this last night but unfortunately had the same problem this morning.

    Hey lads,

I had the same problem with my '06 Passat but then the Handbrake just stopped working altogether.. I went to a main dealer and they told me that the switch was gone but they would also have to reprogramme it.. would cost over 100 quid!.. for a 10 euro switch!!

The familiar scent of a Main Dealer Rip Off lingered in the air!!

I'm just wondering did the rebooting the system work? and If not - how did ye solve it and what did it cost??

    Thanks
