Grinding/High Pitched noise from car

From the second i turn my car on there is a noise that sounds like metal parts grinding or rubbing off each other, i have checked oil and even topped it up but the noise is still there.
It only goes when i press down on the clutch, even slightly press down as in not enough to change gears but once the clutch is released fully, the noise starts again or it seems to go when I go above 2500ish revs (but the noise from the engine might just be cacelling it out). Does anyone know what this might be? belt,engine,clutch/clutch cable? I don have a clue. The noise isnt crazy loud but you can hear it from inside and outside the car. Cheers.

It's a 97 civic hatch. What price would it be to fix if that was the problem?

its a gearbox out job probably fit the complete clutch kit you would have to ring around and get quotes , try a few independent garages where in the country are you

A friend of mine had this problem actually, and I had it too, just not as bad as him. Turns out it was the gearbox, a synchro or two was gone, and the cogs were fecked anyway!

As an aside, both my friend and I had relatively new clutches, and both Civics too.

Ah balls, is it a major problem that needs to be sorted asap or can you just put up with the noise? What would leaving it do to the car/gearbox?

Metal filings constantly moving around the gearbox, creating more damage until it'll eventually just cease working.

Wasn't that much to rebuild 2nd and 3rd in mates box, or 2nd in mine so...?
