Mass Effect 2 coming to PS3

Comments

I don't think there is a PS gamer among us who would complain about these titles coming to the PS3. However, I will believe it when I see it tbh.

I would love to see Mass Effect come to the PS3. I played the first one on the 360 and loved it. I traded in my 360 a few years ago though, before the sequel came out. It is the only game I miss not being able to play on the PS3.

What I dont get is that its only a port of ME2. Part of the appeal of the games is the follow on from game to game, would be a lot lost (mainly with meeting characters in ME2 and you all acting like old friends) by just jumping into ME2.

Though it could be a completely seperate game in the franchise, Bioware were hinting at the trilogy not bering the sole games set in the ME universe.

Oh well, 25 mins to go.

Well Mass Effect 1 has microsoft game studios written on the front of the box so i can't see that coming to ps3 ever. It just says bioware and EA on the ME2 box so MS studios must not have been involved.

didnt the ghostbusters game have sony studios on the cover and ended up on xbox

Don't know I never played that. I always thought that MS owned the rights to mass effect though. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

Previously exclusive to PC and Xbox 360, Mass Effect has been rumored many times as jumping ship to PlayStation 3, each time a rumor surfaced, BioWare shot it down.

However, now BioWare have just announced that Mass Effect 2 is indeed coming to the PlayStation 3 in January 2011.

Good news for Ps3 owners but stupid unless the first one comes out on ps3 aswell

It did indeed. Obviously didn't have it on the Xbox version but it was on the PS3 version. It was originally supposed to be PS3 exclusive as well.

I like this thread the best, it should win.

The sense of ownership over the Shepard characeter won't be there but it's still an excellent game. Kinda glad I've already played it though as the start of 2011 is pretty packed.

I guess Mass Effect 2 can win game of the year twice in a row now.

Not sure i'll get ME2 as i played the PC version, but it better have all the DLC included at this stage.

    Enjoy, 'tis a fine game.

But they should at least include the first game ported too! The joys of ME2 often came from how it tied into how you played the first, and created a world that felt like you had some influence. A bit bizarre to not recognise that! The role of decision making and choice is one of the strengths of Mass Effect to date.

Plus, a year too late? Hmm.

the link i provide said there be a game called mass effect genesis , if any possibilty it could end up like ninja gaiden for 360 and sigma for ps3 just a name change would break the contract , only a guess but it be weird if they can just release mass effect 2 and 3 even though its a triliogy , see can i call it :P

There's no first game to import your Shepard from. My Shepard has been through 2 games already and he's dying for the 3rd.

Shepard isn't like a Nathan Drake, he's a personal character crafted by the player.

Ideally they should revamp the combat system of ME1 with that of ME2 as it was such an improvement. And get rid of the crappy mako sections.

    Yeah, I'm with you now.

Can you import your character from ME1 to ME2 on the Xbox?

I've been tempted to buy the first one for a long time but haven't gotten around to it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,067 ✭✭✭Gunmonkey

From the trailers it looks like it will only be the 2nd game, since MS were involved with the publishing of the first they cant throw it onto the PS3. The "bonus content" will mainly be all the Cerebus Network stuff and maybe the odd bit and piece of paid DLC or the rumoured bridging DLC between this and ME3.

And it will probably not get GOTY, had discussion with some of the hardcore PS3 fans in that they think it came too early in the year to qualify and would be forgotten and that they think its just a s**te game. Why the PS3 players are rejoicing for getting a game they hated and thought was worthless 6 months ago baffles me...

Will never understand this console war malarky.

I replaced my 360 just to play the Mass Effects. Everyone should play them, or at least the second one. Amazing game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,183 ✭✭✭ironictoaster

You don't need to have played ME1 to know whats going in ME2. There is an option in the game on the 360 where it allowed to continue your character and all the decisions you've made from ME1 to ME2. However, you could play it as if you're new to the game, no problem.

Yeah you can import the character from the first ME1 on the xbox.

Plus bioware said they'd be importing over 1000 things from ME1 and 2 into the 3rd game. IIRC.

This is excellent news. I'm a huge fan of the first game and can't wait to continue on the story.

If the PS3 version comes with all the extra DLC (which i'd say it will seeing as Sony usually require that sort of thing) i'll be buying it again.

I didn't try any of the DLC, how much extra content(time) is in them.

But you're missing out on a hell of a lot by not having played the first one, though. When you compare the two, the sequelis plot is utter rubbish.
I mean, you've to put your team together, go to the bad guy and kill him. That's it. It was a bit of a let down compared to the huge, epic nature of the first game.
Now, ME2 makes up for that in the characters which are all fleshed out so much more than the first one and some of the other bells and whistles (such as the game ending different ways depending on certain choices you make throughout), but the story really plays out like the final act of ME1.

Meh, what do I care. I've got an Xbox 360, a PS3 and a gaming PC, so I don't have to miss out on anything (except Mario Kart. Oh god how I miss it!). :D

Mass Effect 2 is one of my favourite games on the 360. Glad that it'll reach a new audience. Cracking title that deserves to be experienced by everyone!

This is great, I have Mass Effect 1 on the PC, but haven't bought 2 yet. Going to get the PS3 version then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,509 ✭✭✭NotorietyH

Any excuse to post one of the best trailers I've ever seen.

Mass Effect 2 is still my game of the year so far anyway. It's such a phenomenal game.

Looks class! Should I play the first one on my PC first tho? I have 7600gt card and dual core processor, should play it okay. I won't be able to transfer over the character obviously, but is it worth it for the story?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,405 ✭✭✭gizmo

Not sure about specs wise but I would highly recommend playing the original first if you can.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,532 ✭✭✭WolfForager

Hell, i'd let ya use my 360 to play the first one :P

Do play the first, it gives you a great grounding on the universe and the characters and team-mates you meet that show up in ME2.

Plus the story, even though a bit generic sci-fi, is SOOOOOO good.
