I was driving to the airport this morning in the very early hours and i drove just over 80mph and next minute a beep and i look at the dash and the flat tyre light had come on so i pull into the hard shoulder and check all the tires there all fine. i turn back on the engine and its off again start driving and test it again go over 80mph and it happens again! i check the tires there all fine and its off when i turn back on the engine?
has anyone any experience or had this happen to them?

Btw the cars a mini cooper!

    thanks in advance :-)

When you say you checked the tires, how did you do this? Visually??

It's hard to tell with run flats if they are a little under pressure. Check the pressures, once they are correct you'll have to drive for a period to reset the warning...

Did you reset the pressure monitor after you checked the tyres?

I've heard the mini doesn't have tyre pressure sensors in each wheel to measure true pressure but uses the ABS sensors to monitor long term changes in wheel rotation which are symptomatic of low tyre pressure, i.e. if a tyre is going flat its rolling radius changes and the wheel turns faster.
    Can anyone confirm?

Yep that's pretty much how it works on the mini...

you do this by holding the button in thats on the centre console near the handbrake IIRC,

(I have a bimbo dear freind in the UK for whom Ive had to do this about three times.....i keep telling her she has a slow puncture and that she needs to take the car in but once Ive pumped it for her, she drives on for a few more months....
last time i was there I checked the oil...nothing on the dip stick and only the merest trace after I put in a litre.Advised her to take it in for service (7000 miles oberdue) urgently as it would need at least another litre. I expect she needs a new engine by now....

Ye I reset that button under the hand break went back to check gyres just there (last time was at 6am) all still the same! Went back on the M50 tested it again and back on must be a fault!
An then turn off the engine and it goes off agai
? It's going for service next week any ways so I'm goin to ask them!

How smart is the system? if you had a big difference in tread depth on the tyres would that flip it out?
i would check the manual and see what it says re tyres.
