    Is this true?

Totally ridiculous seeing as it used to be like €13, and since these new ones last for the duration of your course, it means first years will have to ensure they don't lose one in 3-4 years.

I take it this means next year's registration fees will be cheaper? lol right

Bit steep alright. Has anyone lost one yet and found out?

the one card for the whole course plan is a complete money making scheme. There's no way they weren't already making a profit on cards at 13e anyways.

Yup heard some girl in the canteen today complaining she had to pay 30e cause she lost her card

Ha, it's messy system. Last year they sent me three in the post, so I had little chance of losing mine :)

30euro is a joke. For someone to press a button and position a piece of plastic? No recession here.

How much is it to replace a passport or driving licence?

It is a form of ID - you're not supposed to be losing them. My gripe is that they're not strong enough to last more than a year of use.

My gripe is that it has no expiry date, so many businesses are refusing to give a student discount based on this card.

Hmmm, never noticed that! Good point.

How do people lose their cards?? I can remember a time in 3rd year when I had all 1st, 2nd and 3rd year cards in my wallet. Even now ive this year and last years IDs in my wallet. Im in my 6th year of college and have not once lost my card!

I can see big problems arising when students lose their card at exam times. 30 to replace the card, and €20 (I think) fine for not having student ID at the exam.

This is my 6th year too and must've lost at least 5 or 6 cards. Went through most of 2nd year without one! Thank Christ they weren't 30 a pop back then..

    Yes, it's true.

I was about to register and asked could I change by file photo; it was from 3 years ago and no longer looks like me. THey told me that even though I hadn't registered yet, my ID had been printed and it'd cost €30 to print a new one.

It's actually something the SU are looking into, I think they're just waiting to get a response from the college on it...

Oh come on - you've not changed a bit.
My photo's the same one I got 6 years ago, and I'm still clearly the same devastatingly handsome rogue as in the photo.

Mainly as I recently got my haircut so I now look like I did in the old photos.
When I was registering (and when I made the month-old post you quoted), my hair was down to my shoulders, I had a couple of bouncers refuse to believe it was me until I could provide other forms of ID.

I managed to fly within the states on my old ID card as it had all the prerequisits for ID to fly.

Only realised now that it's lacking an expiry date. That was shortsighted.

Maybe they are more expensive as (I've heard anyway) there is an RFID chip in the new ones. We dont really benefit as students but more doors to labs have RFID and swip access. Maybe this college is entering the 21st century...

Or it could just be to discourage students further from losing their ID.

Hope they checked them the technology properly this time then - unlike last year when half the students in college unknowingly had access to all swipe-card areas on campus..

Yes, this should cut down on the number of students intentionally losing their ID cards...

    There you go...

Dunno about you but when they were €13 I didn't need any encouragement not to lose it either.
