Audit - Got a tutorial report, I know where I messed up in the summer, I redid the the assessment and it went hell of a lot better than the last time so hopefully get more than 6!

Financial - Crapping it, just doing consolidation questions and other questions IAS 12, Cash Flow, IAS 16 etc its all I can do is keep doing questions!

Hoping for the best, hopefully crawl over the line this time as I wasnt too far away in the summer, THANK F**K I DONT HAVE SFMA TO DO!

Mark, don't forget about Construction Contracts and EPS. You never know, if they come up, they can be pretty handy!

Hi Mark, i'm doing the same two as you. Would it be possible for you to send on the tutorial report for audit? do you have one for f. reporting aswell?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,598 ✭✭✭✭prinz

Didn't they say they were going to make actual pass and fail marked answers from the Summer sitting available for us? Anyone know anything on that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 524 ✭✭✭Mark1916

Considering its based on the answers I gave in my actual exam it would be useless to you plus I paid €100 for it!

In relation to the marked answers knowing the institute it will be the day before the repeats before we get them! We were told today were not getting our auditing assessment repeat results until monday 11th october!

Far as I know the intention was to get all the tutorial reports out first - due to happen by the end of this week but i'm still waiting for mine.

Hopefully last of the tutorials will be out Mon/Tue and then the model answers soon after that.

Cutting it fine to say the least.

Not sure which thread is being used for the repeats but I would just like to wish all the people sitting the repeats this week the very best of luck.

looking forward to going in and smashing audit tomorrow.

the only thing thats bothering me is that every night i get closer to the exams it takes me longer and longer to get to sleep. im not even stressed so dont understand it. stopped working last night at 11 and was still rolling about at 2.30-3am. takes me ages to waken up too = maybe i should go for a more straight forward question first to get the cogs turning

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 402 ✭✭R0N BURGUNDY

thought that went decent. hurried through question 1 so had enough time to spare on 2 & 4 to get a few marks i probably wouldnt have gotten otherwise. had to look up a couple of standards but found what i was looking for straight away thank god. 1 down, 3 to go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 149 ✭✭Rickyroma

    Paper seemed fair enough.

Could have done without the constant interruptions re the typo but overall it was tricky but fair.

Q2 b - adjustment re sale to related party was very tricky I thought. All the journal entries required and the schedule of uncorrected misstatements were nasty but that could be just me.

Good luck to all sitting any others.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 989 ✭✭✭Dick Turnip

thought it was decent paper. thought the case study was straight forward even down to the ethics question. did q2 and 4 but bull****ted my way through the first part of 4 re the quality service to client. thought the audit report question wasn't too bad either.

i know i swore i'd given up trying to predict how i got on in these exams but thought i did enough to pass anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 524 ✭✭✭Mark1916

Thought it was a fair paper,

It was straightforward although some parts were tricky e.g. the related party transaction. The journals were ok although you done some based on the assumptions you made. I attempted question 4 and thought it was ok, hopefully I hit most of the review points, for the quality audit I just referred to the IAS standard on quality audit and I had a few notes on it.

Hopefully I done enough, I redone the audit assessment so if I did decent enough in that i would be confident enough but then again it is auditing were talking about here!

    Hey guys,

Glad to hear there's at least some positive feedback from the exam. Could someone who's not doing any more repeats post the paper up here? My sister sat the exam today and I just want to have a look.

Thanks and good luck for anyone with any other repeats for the rest of the week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,598 ✭✭✭✭prinz

Thought it was quite fair. Bit of a time issue but not nearly as bad as the Summer sitting. Just hope they mark it as fairly too. Did questions 3 and 4. Thought the quality audit question was a bit vague.. and spent too long on that, which probably included a bit of waffle and that cost me time when I got to completing 4(b).

So guys what do you think about today's paper?

I thought it was hard but it might just to me....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 402 ✭✭R0N BURGUNDY

thought that was tough. glad i didnt waste much time studying for it because it would have been a complete waste of time. sorry - i did study for it yesterday = covered variances... yes that was a complete waste of time. lol

hard to know if ur answering the right way half the time. who knows.

It was pretty tough! Did loads of waffling and have no idea how it went really! Its very opinionated which is just difficult to tell if what your writing is right or not! Hopefully i wrote enough to pass although my handwriting didnt help at all! Its over anyway, one to go which is probably gonna be worse..FR! Good Luck to everyone anyway!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 Altaglusgan Lad

I had a 1st class, leaver arch file of notes bursting at the seams, and 3 good books in with me for SFMA, complete waste of time.

Anything I looked up wasn't in either books (Books written pre recession, therefore out of date for this paper) or notes covered in class.

Very tough paper I thought, either that or very wafflely

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 402 ✭✭R0N BURGUNDY

what do u reckon will come up tomoro for fr>? iv got a feeling there will be something on a statement of changes in equity because its hardly been touched. obviously theres going to be consolidated SoCI+SoFP or SOCF. i think...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 Altaglusgan Lad

I dont think cash flow will come up this time round, since it is such a small topic in the book etc. and the fact that the FR examiner was sacked, and the paper was rewritten. i'd say EPS, consolidations. and maybe impairment of assets(Topical). Pure Guessing, but its what i'm gona take a look over today/nite

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4 Phillycheese

I dont see a Cash Flow comin up again, thats what screwed me over in June, i didnt look at them at all...and i took one look at the EPS part and gave up really, all that text through me off! Little did i know cash flows are very doable, be happy if they came up now...ah well! Yeah Ive looked at changes in equity and all the different types of consolidations...an acquisition of a foreign subsidiary could come up because its fairly complicated and takes time but its impossibe to tell! Not very optimistc about this theres just so much to learn, if question one goes well i might get lucky!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 402 ✭✭R0N BURGUNDY

foreign exchange on the SoCI and SoFP isnt too bad if youve got a question laid out all nice so u can see what to do. its getting the exchange difference which is a bit weird - seen a couple of different methods on it as well

eps - was going over that there and came across the situation of TERPs. not that hard in isolation but when u throw in the rest of the changes, it starts to get messy.

can anyone tell me - if there is a rights issue in the middle of the year: do u include this in your workings for basic eps? i would say yes, like the solution does to the summer one by multiplying the whole year by 6/5. ok so - what happens if the rights issue was in the middle of the year? do u time apportion the increase in shares the way u would in a share issue say>?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 402 ✭✭R0N BURGUNDY

    found an example=

u dont time apportion a BONUS issue.

u do time apportion a rights issue.

Thanks Ron, was looking at the revision tutorial stream earlier and was wondering whether it should have been time apportioned.

I thought it was a nice paper today.....however saying that I think I failed...I thought the fx was ok but i could not do some of the adjustmensts. the ratios were good to see hopefully push me over the 50%.

I messed up the fair value adjustment before foreign exchange translation. Would I lose a lot of marks for that ? I made adjustment after translation ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 402 ✭✭R0N BURGUNDY

the ratios were the dogs balls. tricky in some places but no madness as per the last paper. gave it a good stab

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 524 ✭✭✭Mark1916

I done 4 ratios for each of the companies and wrote a basic report hopefully they throw marks at you! Did the question with the 3 issues, hopefully did ok and picked up marks, Question 1 I found tough done all the workings but felt rushed for time, some of the adjustments were confusing enough the other 3 parts were ok fingers crossed I did enough to cross the line but you never know unfortunately!

Hope it went well today for everyone, glad to hear the paper today was a bit more favourable than it has been.

If someone has the time and isn't doing the tax exam, would it be possible to upload the paper?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,598 ✭✭✭✭prinz

Time issues again unfortunately :( Looks like next June for FR.

Wasn't an extremely tough paper but if I had some more time, even 15 mins or so, I could have done A LOT better. Got the case study and Q2 done (spent too long on it) and barely even got started on the second short question so basically will be marked out of 80 or so. Not likely to pass.

Well, you are not alone...I did not get enough study leave and so decided to concentrate only on two instead of all four - so prepared for Auditing and Tax. Hoping that they will maintain similar standard for FR paper next summer!

I did well in Auditing and fingers crossed for Tax tomorrow - If I end up passing these two then it is mission accomplished! :)

i just realised to myself there = i haven't even enrolled for fae (not that i think i passed all the resits but i suppose u never know) has everyone else who did resits enrolled aye? closing date was 1st of september apparently.

You're not alone, I forgot to enrole too but also doubt I passed all my repeats! I'll be giving the lectures that are on before the results come out a miss, definitely not worth the gamble!

Surely you can only enrol once you have the exams passed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,598 ✭✭✭✭prinz

Surely you can only enrol once you have the exams passed?

No, you can enrol earlier but you tick a little box indicating you are waiting on resit results. You only pay the fee then if your resit is successful. Not a big deal you can enrol after the closing date, but it costs €100 or something.

It's because of the resits and resit results being so late in the year, the course has already started for the next year. So if you wait until your resit result - you have missed the first couple of weeks of the next year. There's an overlap there which is a bit silly.

i dont think that will be a problem but id say it would be better to send in the forms now just in case.

    Hi Guys,

Sorry if posting on the wrong thread here.

I am currently a modular student sitting CAP1 Mgmt and CAP2 Tax & Audit.
Would anyone know if I can sit SFMA & Auditing in Autumn provided the 3 modules I am doing now are completed in Summer??

I understand these are tough subjects and the pass rates are quite low but just wanted to check out as it could hypothetically cut a year off my Training Contract.

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.
