As you may know, Alan Rickman is currently starring in the Abbey Theatre's John Gabriel Borkman. Fantastic play.

There's a CHANCE that we can get an interview with him. If we do, we'd love your questions - so post below and if it happens, we'll ask them!

They're also doing a meet the cast on Wednesday 27 October at 1pm - http://www.abbeytheatre.ie/whats_on/event/1568

    Cheers

    Darragh

Seeing as you do not like to be refered to as a villain actor if you could would you go back and perhaps not choos your roles from Die Hard and Prince of Thieves?

Has there been any role of yours that you have found particularly fulflling?

I'm surprised by some of these rather obnoxious questions. Mr. Rickman is one of the best actors in the last 3 or 4 decades-show some respect -geez.

Question - I'd heard that you were going to direct "A House in Paris" based on the wonderful book by the same name-is that still in the works? And would you ever consider starring in a movie or play that you direct also?

Also who have you admired in your earlier career that you would have appreciated working with or still would like to?

    Thank you.

Mr. Rickman, can you contrast how you would prepare yourself for a dramatic role (eg in Michael Collins) and a light-hearted romantic comedy (eg Love Actually)? Would there be a big difference in time spent rehearsing?

Is there any genres of film or any franchises that you would like to be a part of or take more roles in?

Can you share your experiences during the filming of Sweeney Todd?

    Thank you.

Are you proud that your brother tried to avenge your death at the hands of that cop or annoyed he tacked it on to his gold stealing shenanigans as a distraction?

Alan - is there any role you really wish you had never played?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,976 ✭✭✭✭humanji

Since he's played a pretty baffling array of characters in both film and theatre, is there any particular type of role that draws him to a story more than others, and is there any dream role he'd love to play?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

Serious question, would you ever like to narrate something like a wildlife show or documentary? Certainly has the voice for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,295 ✭✭✭✭Duggy747

Mr. Rickman, why are you so brilliant?

    Or, less kiss-arsery......

Was it exceptionally challenging when performing the Samuel Beckett piece, Play, with Juliet Stevenson and Kristen Scott-Thomas? I imagine there would have been plenty of re-takes to get that intense fast-talking just right and coherent.

Just an FYI I worked on Play, and it was filmed using several cameras, Play is performed on stage to the same rhythm and same style.

My question is this. Does he regret not getting the part of Rimmer? (he audited for Red Dwarf in 1988)

That is one fairly badly photoshopped picture Darragh :D

Could you ask Alan who his favourite person to work with was?

Since he has played such a variety of characters I want to ask how he prepares for his roles exactly?

With the greater diversity of modern forms of entertainment available to people and the dwindling of studio backed independent films resulting in hollywood focussing on the blockbuster and gimmicks such as 3D, many entertainment industries have evolved (for better or worse!) over the years.

With this in mind, what does Mr. Rickman believe the future holds for modern theatre?

Who is the best actor you have worked with and why?

Also want to know who is the best director and why?

Are there any tips you could give to someone about acting?

Given that you have mentioned your disappointment recently in the way De Valera was portrayed in the final cut of Michael Collins, can you elaborate on the content of the scenes that didn't make the final cut and how they would have altered the audience's perception of the character?

(http://www.independent.ie/opinion/letters/misconceptions-on-dev-persist-2378572.html I didn't see the interview, so if he did discuss this nevermind and can someone give me the details? cheers!)

As a complete opposite to an earlier question, how glad is he that he was a part of the utterly fantastic and under appreciated Galaxy Quest and any chance he'd say the "Grapthar's hammer" line? :D

Does he look back fondly on his early TV work? What are his memories, in particular, of Smiley's People, or of the BBC Shakespeare?

Which actors or directors from Hollywood's golden era does he admire?

Has his career allowed him to meet or work with any of his heroes. What was it like?

I'm writing a screenplay in which Eamonn de Valera is a secret superhero called Analogy Man. Will he redress the balance for Michael Collins by taking the central role?

What is your opinions on the overuse of 3D in cinema as of late? Do you think it's a novelty that will soon wear off or something that is here to stay?

You played Eamon de Valera in the superb Michael Collins. Given the chance, is there any other historical figure (Irish or otherwise) that you would jump at the chance of portraying?

From the many movies you have starred in, which director did you find was best to work with?

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

How did you manage to look so like a robot in Hitchhikers?

Were they your real genitals in Dogma?

Were all your henchmen in Die Hard from the band Motley Crue?

Did you play Danny Kendall in Grange Hill?

How come you look completely different when you played Cameron in Ferris Bueller?

Do you think Rooney will go to Manchester City?

Do the characters you play have the same size feet as you?

How do you get your hair so fluffy? It's delighful to look at.

In detail, please explain just how a person would cut out a heart with a spoon.

Would you do Rachel off Countdown?

Given the variety of roles played, does you previous role influence what your next role is going to be?

So, if you are in a drama, do you say to yourself my next film must be something other than a drama etc...

He'd make a wonderful voice for an answering machine, but that just reminds me of Marvin the Robot (#2), which leads me to the question, what part, stage or screen, was the most depressing to play and why?

Just because he didn't get Mr. Rickman?! A bit harsh but I guess greater mortals have fallen for less...

Anyway....I shall take off where Darragh started and bring Mr. Rickman to the Film forum, and I will get him to renact his most famous role for Boards, that of Severus Snape, in Harry Potter Puppet Pals. Wish me good luck Boards!
