    Hi all

I just recently moved into Milltown Dublin 6. I'm not too familair with the place so I need a route about 5-6 miles to do to keep my fittness up.

Does anyone have any suggestions where I can go? I live beside the Milltown Luas stop

    All suggestions are appreciated

    Thanks :)

Run along the Dodder to Bushy Park.
Down to Milltown Road, turn right, up the hill, and at the top of the hill there's a little road down to the left. There's a park at the bottom that runs beside the Dodder, and a path that goes all the way to Bushy Park. you might not get all the way to Bushy and back in 6 miles, but the path is nice enough anyway

    Hi;

I used to live in Milltown a good few years ago but here is the routes i ran, cant be a 100% on the distance but be close to it:)

Going to start the route at the bridge at Milltown, it isnt where i started from so mileage could be a bit off as i used to be in the Columbanus area.

This should be close to 5k
Go across bridge towrds Dundrum and turn left at Birds Avenue, its the where the barbers is and traffic lights.
Go down birds avenue and follow the road to your left, this bring you down towards back of UCD into Clonskeagh. Go by O'sheas pub and eventually you come in Ranelagh. You come to a junction with lights and turn left for milltown rd and this bring you down by Spar in Milltown and back to the bridge.

For 5 Miles, start at the bridge in Milltown again and go towards Dundrum till you hit that big luas bridge, go left there into Churchtown and keep following the road, thru the lights and down by Super Value. Eventually after a downhill drop you hit more lights and go right there and brings you by River dodder. Come to a T-jnction go left up big hill into Rathgar and go left at Rathgar village and keep lright of church brings you down HighField Rd. At end of Highfiled road your at Dartry and go right there and you come down by Dropping Well.

To make this run longer instead of turning right at those lights after the downhill drop, go straight towards templeogue and cut back then at bushy park, through terenure and into Rathgar!

    Hope it helps

Hi Bren a run I like in that area is run to to the end of Churchtown road (past the golf club), then right at the bottom onto Milltown road, up the hill past the spar and then right onto Clonskeagh road and up Goatstown road until the Goat pub. Then take a right down taney road, straight through the lights and back to your start. Really nice, but challenging route with a few hills.

You could vary it up by coming up the dundrum road instead of going out as far as the Clonskeagh road too.

Haven't run since the 90's but we used to run from Ranelagh up to UCD (Belfield) and do a lap of the grounds. Was a lovely run, almost traffic free. There's been a lot of developement since, worth checking out if you can still do it.

+1 on running along the Dodder. With some small deviations you can follow the river all the way to the Liffey and back. It's lovely running and nearly all away from traffic.

Most of this route is along the dodder as far as Rathfarnham..

Definitley run along the Dodder, I live nearby and I do it all the time, there is a good wide tar path all the way and plenty of grass verges if you want as well. If you go towards Bushy park the only road you have to cross is at Rathfarnham Bridge.

From Dartry Dye Works its 4.3km return to the stepping stones that go across the river into Bushy, a big lap of the edge of Bushy is another 2.8km. You could also run along the river up to Kilvere estate off Butterfield Ave, thats 7.7km return, keep going to the M50 its 12.3 return.

Go the other way from the Dye Works to Clonskeagh bridge is 3.6km return, Ballsbridge (cross the N11) is 7.6km, and Grand Canal Docks is 11.5km.

Plenty of wildlife as well, herons, foxes, loads of birds, ducks and waders, the odd badger at night and there are a pair of otters around Orwell bridge, though I've never seen them.

btw the Dye Works is the old red brick building with a clock on top of the hill, up from the Dropping Well pub, its now a Montessori School.

I've run through Milltown a few times. This is the route I generally follow. ;)
