My car passed its NCT a week ago, and I was just wondering some car dealerships are officering a free winter health check. Would it be worth availing of one of these if the car passed the NCT.

In return for the free winter check, would you expect the dealer to say :

"She's sound boss, drive her on there to feck."

    or

"Our technician's preliminary, first-level investigations have high-lighted the need for more detailed electronic analysis of your vehicle. For a mere €7k + parts + labour + VAT we can schedule this for you tomorrow."

if its free, of course it's bloody worth it. its not like theyre gonna do damage to your car. why does this thread even need to exist? if you cant rely on your own opinion enough to make the judgement whether a free check is worth it and feel the need to come on here and ask others then id worry.

    im done

Take it easy, he just asked question.

In answer to the OP. If it's just passed an NCT, don't bother. The only reason why these checks exist is so they can spot/make up work that needs to be done and get some money from it.

Thats what I was thinking. Thank you

Not everything is measured in Euros. There's also the cost of time, to get there, to wait for the check to be done, probably to listen to some form of sales pitch, to drive back after etc.

There's a couple of threads here and here about how to prepare your car for winter.

Your free check would probably show up numerous dangerous faults. I will list them here for you.

Leaking rear shock - must replace in pairs.
Front pads & discs also need replacing.
    Various suspension bushes/control arms,
2 tyres not fit for winter
    & wiper blades.

Now your car has passed the NCT but alot of these free check garages or chain outlets will still 'find' these issues on your car.

Actually, it would be V interesting if you were to remove the new NCT disc from the window and leave it in for the free check!

Im not saying the NCT will find all faults but it would be a worthwhile exercise to see how much you could have paid out to prepare for the test.
