I have been looking out for a new car for quite a while now was unsure what to buy/ what I wanted but recently I took a spin in a mates Audi A4 and was fairly impressed. Im due to make a few calls about ones I have seen advertised about the place this evening after work and I'm wondering if anyone could give me some tips on what stuff I should be asking about and if I go as far as viewing the cars what in particular should I look out for!!
Is there anything different to look for in the 130 bhp 6 speed models compared to other models??

    Cheers guys

They're commonly clocked, so you'll want to see (and verify by phone with the dealers) a full service history. If the car's a UK import, you'll want to run an HPI check too.

Off the top of my head.

Id be checking for smoke - give it a give rev when on the test drive and stationary and check the smoke - you dont want heavy black/blue smoke.
Make sure the turbo boosts ok
Make sure the clutch is ok - no noises vibrations when pressing/letting off clutch. No slipping
Listen out for clonks/clinks when driving over bumps - control arms
Check electric windows - driverside esp - bit of a common fault with wires in door jam breaking.

Check for a tow hitch. Generally not a positive sign.

As Anan1 said, double check with the history on the garage where the service is done-

The climate control caused a big problem for me, check that the heating will blow hot on both sides of the dash- passenger and drivers side- mine failed and left me with only heating on the passenger side and the drivers side blowing out baltic air- the windscreen would never clear.

Took 3 mechanics to trace the fault to a broken lever that moved the baffles in the dash-
Also test your aircon to make sure its refrigeration circuit is working right- heat up the car to the full, then bang it down and stick on the air- the vents should be sending out obviously cold air- do this when stationary so its not just taking in masses of air in from the fresh air intake.

Also the seat belt sensor gave alot of trouble- it would go off thinking someone was in the passenger seat but they were not-- very annoying
    happy hunting

Some great stuff there guys, even if some of it does sound a little worrying :) If anyone has anymore keep em coming. Definitely gonna ask about the service hostory etc when I ring later. Theres no tow hitch so thats a plus i guess!!
