We where the most globalized before  then dropped to 2nd from what I remember
Anyways "more globalized" in case of Ireland means "easier to launder money",

The average person should be focusing their attention on the competitiveness rankings (page 16) instead
Ireland declines in the rankings for the second year
in a row, to 29th position this year. The country continues to benefit from a number of strengths, including
excellent health and primary education (ranked 10th)
and strong higher education and training (23rd), as well
as well-functioning goods and labor markets, ranked 14th
and 20th, respectively. These attributes have fostered a
sophisticated and innovative business culture (ranked 20th
for business sophistication and 22nd for innovation). On
the other hand, the decline in rank is attributable to a
weakening macroeconomic environment as well as continuing concerns related to financial markets (with a
precipitous fall from 7th two years ago to 45th last year
and 98th position this year in this pillar).

edit: and E&Y have no credibility left after being the auditors for Anglo and Lehmans, anything they say should be taken with a huge pinch of salt

How in HELL can our competitiveness be going down considering our economy is deflating? Surely this means lower costs etc to businesses who want to come here?

Of course it will help, people can go all over the globe to find work!

More seriously, it means that if the international economy thrives then we will too. It may take a little time for this to overcome the debt mountain, but it will.

.... Meanwhile loads of Irish companies close their doors and cut staff while foreign companies are given first preference for grants to start up business here. Have you ever heard the like of it in your life. To hell with the IDA, more investment should go into helping Irish businesses grow and develop so that we can have strong domestic industry. This is something that successive governments over the past couple of years have not paid any attention to.

Well I guess if your a multi national you can swing deals, but in general costs are rising, energy waste etc etc are all on the up to fund our enormous semi state and state enterprises.

The upshot is while the people in the private sector get poorer costs are rising to fund the public sector.

It either means that Ireland is the most stretched country across the globe or that Ireland is the country that most represents a physical sphere. I donno.

What's the point in being the most globalised country on earth if it means that hundreds of thousands of your own citizens have no work?

+1. Foreign multinationals use transfer pricing to pass their foreign earned income through Ireland, + pay our low rate of income tax. No wonder the other countries ( who lose out on this tax ) hate us. Remember the French politician last week only, saying how they are finding it difficult to help us with the bailout while we are the money laundering offshore island of Europe ( or words to that effect ). We should have sent Bertie to speak to him, he can explain how he as Minister for finance had no bank account + won his money on the horses !

oh that's even vaguer - I like it - here's a promotion, pay raise, another extra salary and bonus - you deserve it for that coinage

we're mainly a globalized poster boy for how to ruin a country's competitiveness
