Children's hunting book

I am looking for a good children’s book on deer hunting. Not to teach them gun safety or show them bloody pictures of dead animals or to teach them how to gut a deer. But a nicely illustrated book, showing the circle of life, the excitement of the stalk, the love and respect for nature, the idea of having the meat for dinner…
Anyone know of something like this?
I am getting a lot of hard to answer questions and would like to have a picture book to help explain. I am not a hunter but do occasionally have a leg of venison with the hoof still on sitting in the sink. Just want to explain to the kids what it is all about…

I dont know about a book - but I have brought my 8 and 4 yr old sons with me one few occasions when shooting rabbits or pigeons. That's the way I learned it, and a great way to answer a LOT of questions ;)

I want to bring my nephew out shooting, However I would be afraid if I brought them out too young that he could be traumatised

+ The sister would murder me

The young fella won't wear camo s he thinks it's dirty (He's Twee)

If a child is unsure or 'not ready' to go out with you - then obviously he/she needs more time. Deer stalking might be difficult with kids as they do not tend to stay quiet for too long ;) My 8 yr old comes more often with cause the younger one does not fancy the longer hikes :p

I always rooted for the dogs and hunters in Bambi - but I think it is not suitable just yet.
I am looking forward to hikes with kids when they are older, but the 3 year old is still too young.

I used to go fox digging with my dad with terriers i started going with him at the age of 5 every week without fail never gave me the creeps and i seen some tense situations, it depends on the child personality and how there brought up, i really enjoyed it we never used guns to keep fox numbers under control although i was not allowed to get involved in gun sport till i was 14, have never came across books for hunting for kids best bet i suppose would be to google it or askjeeves or ebay but you probably tried that . Ill look it up for you ang get back

Andrew J. De Nahliks book title 'Wild Deer'...........

Not by any means aimed at kiddies but is fairly comprehensive if you wish to read it and relate the info on to them in your own terms. Covers roe, red, sika and fallow. Gives nice illustrations of antlers and age stages, covers antler deformation, covers tooth aging, covers tracks, address the culling aspect of it and estate management. Might be useful in explaining what a 'cull' animal is to them and how not to waste good, healthy organic meat.

From field to fork aspect, maybe an episode of river cottage? couple of good ones where hugh uses most if not all of the animal. Might be wider literature on the subject but not awful familiar with it.

    Luck,

Try the American NRA website..I know they do the "Eddie Eagle" programme for kids on gun saftey,so they more than likely have somthing on hunting?

I started going out with my uncles when I was around 12 I suppose and used to love it every Sunday. Only got my 1st gun and started shooting with them this year. Depends on the the kid and the parents I suppose
