Guys,,,,,In the last few days I have been offered 2 very rare Renaults. Both of these have been in sheds for well over 20 years are in need of total restoration and probably are borderline as whether thay are do-able or not. Seeing that I probably would be just resqueing them from the crusher ---would I be mad????????

Save the Dauphine and break the 17 to pay for the Dauphine resto, but this is your time and money so do what you feel is right

save the two of them !!!!
get them home safe and then go through them and see if its feasable .

put up a few piccies and then you,ll get an answer on here quick enough :)

two scarce cars now and worth the effort of saving them !!!

Get the R17! If it's rusty but not rotten, a full resto is feasible enough, surely?

    I love the R17s :)

Hi John, you probably know yourself that a rusty 17TL isn't 'special' enough to be rescued if it is really bad. You might break it yourself and sell off the bits that are salvageable.
The Dauphine Gordini however is a different matter: if it is a genuine Gordini and not just the badge on the body, it would be a shame to have it crushed. It's quite a sought after little car. On the international market, there are people willing to take these on as a projects. I have seen top notch examples go for up to 9k-11k...
Also make sure you check it's not perhaps a very rare 1093 model Gordini (!), that would be a real treasure trove find ...

i wouldn't hesitate to take the Gordini, the chances of you finding a Dauphine is slim but a 4 speed Gordini, goes without saying.
    i had a 1959 dauphine 3 speed,then i had the dauphine Gordini 4 speed 1961.
both were great little cars, and worth a mint now
anything can be repaired if you take the time.
    go for it

I find the idea of a daupine gordini more than interesting.

So I rang a friend who may have the only ( correct me if wrong) irish reg Dauphine.

he wasnt chomping at the bit to get it, but can give loads of advice and contacts.

I would say rescue them, they are 2 lovely car.
Obviously it might take a couple of year to get around the job depending on the time you have to work on it.

But they will be great car to have.;)
