Mary Hanifin is a double jobbing teacher politician.

She views the world thru a classroom

Em, what? She's doing and getting paid for one job - as a TD. Seeing as she hasn't taught in 15+ years, I doubt she sees the world "thru a classroom". What a nonsensical post/rant:rolleyes:

Well, if the Independent says it....

The phrase "double-jobbing" implies that she is doing and getting paid for two jobs, she isn't. This hysteria over teachers in the Dáil is a problem with the system. Teachers (among other public servants) are allowed to take career breaks of up to five years. They are also allowed to make pension contributions during this time. The problem arises when TDs get re-elected as provision has not been made in the system to compel these teachers/TDs to either resign their teaching posts of return to them. Now, you can argue that they should do it, but the system allows them not to.

Is she a TD yes, Is she still a teacher YES, Is she benefiting financially at the expense of the taxpayer from being still a teacher Yes....

I agree with you the system should be changed however with 35+ teachers in the Dail they haven't got around to it! Most people don't know they are still officially teachers as well as being TDs.

Teacher-TD's totally shaft the taxpayer! The system needs to be changed.
