    Hi,

I've been looking for quote for a day trip (same day) travelling in the next few days to Holyhead from Dublin by car but I've been getting some outrageous quotes, between €250 and €300.

Can anyone recommend how I might get a cheaper quote??

    Thanks.

    fly and rent?
or is it to transport something, in which case possibly get a freight company to do it.

Tesco vouchers can also be converted to Stena tickets at 4 time face value (not 100% sure they are still doing it)

check all five options. the three Stena ferries and the two irish Ferries. The 2am departure from Dublin on the stena Ferry is usually quite cheap. you are better off going Tuesday to Thursday as well.

Go to this address and press the "book now" button:

    http://www.stenaline.ie/ferry/day-trips/daytrip-holyhead-by-car/

I'm getting a quote of €160 return for Saturday.

Otherwise call Stena or Irish Ferries and simply ask for a daytrip, I can assure you you wouldn't have to pay €300 for just a daytrip..

If you're bringing passengers, the Football Express by Car looks good value, it can be done for €200 or less even at the weekend for car and 4 passengers. The regular Day Return is better if you're going Driver only.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread however I'm looking to book a ferry crossing (return) today (for travel in a couple of weeks time).

Anyone know of any good offers on right now and who's best to go with, Irish or Stena?

not aware of any specific offers.

The two are basically the same, just go with the cheaper option tbh, the sailing times and craft are similar enough.

Check for promo codes on the internet. Any time I see a space for a promotional code I do a quick search. Maybe A650 works for stena line...

Also check P & O to Liverpool....avoids part of the drive.

Didn't think of that! Will do so now. Thanks for the voucher code info too!

Thought Holyhead would be better though as I'm driving from there (or Liverpool) straight to Heathrow.

Checked Liverpool. They've a return crossing that inexplicably takes 8 hours EACH WAY?

You could get to New York in the same time!

...only €196 all inc though. :o

Its a freight ferry. The ones that are faster are designed just for passenger travel, not moving freight.

For the sake of €100 (and my sanity) I think I'll give the freight ferry a miss!

Looking in to Rosslare to Pembroke or Fishguard and it's kicking out c.€255 fares. For a saving of €50-€100 it might not be worth the drive from Dublin to Rosslare.

Irish ferries looks good though as they provide free kennels for dogs.

If you're driving to London I find it's worth the drive to Rosslare for the ferry.

The roads are much better in South Wales, it'll be motorway for most of the journey.

There is a dual carriage way from Hollyhead all the way to Chester where it connects to the M56 and on to the M6. From Fishguard you are stuck on the single lane A40 for the best part of one hour before hitting a dual carriage way.
Then you also need to count the drive down to Rosslare which adds another two hours (I take it we leave from Dublin).

I have done both and believe me: the crossing to Hollyhead is much better to get to London or the South East of England.

i did the ferry to liverpool recently.
it cost 96 euro one way 2 adults 1 infant and 1 car.
you get breakfast and dinner included in the price.
it takes 7 hours to liverpool and a further 1 hour to move through a lock to the berthing place.
    it is well worth it.
i would suggest getting the overnight boat, and a cabin at 20 euro is a sanity must.

journey from rosslare and holyhead to london take roughly 5 hrs 30 min
not sure from liverpool, but you are closer to motorways.

Yep I done Heathrow to Holyhead last Summer so am familiar with the Holyhead drive. Don't think Rosslare would be so good, cheers for the advice on that.

Journey is time sensitive so I don't think the freight ferry is the best idea. Plus 8 hours on a ferry each way would drive me insane!

I think I might have to bit the bullet and pay the extra. No discount codes going that anyone knows of? I read somewhere you could use Tesco vouchers but it sounds like hassle converting them.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Much appreciated.
