Suit for a Ball

So I have a very very nice single-breasted dark navy suit that I'm planning on wearing to a ball this week. The problem I'm having is that the event is kind of black tie.

I need some advice on whether it's possible/acceptable to wear a suit like this with a bow tie and if so, what colour should I try to go for. I'm planning on wearing quite a nice light purple fitted shirt and suspenders (possibly).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers,

    Pete.

Always follow the dresscode. If the invite says blacktie/formal it's because the organiser wants it that way for a reason. They are going through a lot of trouble to present the affair in a particular format.
Borrow or hire or buy a dinner jacket and black trousers/shoes/tie and a white shirt.
    Sorry, it's ettiquete. :o

On the plus side you'll feel like a million euro and look like James Bond. :)

Cheers OldGoat, I thought as much. I had a tux until recently but accidentaly brushed against some pink paint that wasn't quite dry. Very irritating!
