    "m'eiseamláir bheatha". Got this suggestion on another forum...

    also "Mo Sholaoid Bheo"

    Can anyone verify what these phrases translate to?

    right...but I'm looking for a direct translation of this phrase.

    In fact, I have no clue what it means, and it could mean anything. So I am simply requesting a translation via the Irish language forums I found on google.

    If anyone has input, it would be greatly appreciated. Even if it is to say that the suggestions I've received are bunk...that helps too. many thanks!!

    They're both poor attempts at translating the phrase you were looking for in your other thread (i.e. She is "my living example"). They make sense on a literal level, but are not really appropriate translations of your lyric.

    Ach ní dhéanaim go bhfuil "mo dheismireacht beo" ceart. Is fearr liomsa "ón bhfíorshaol" in áit le "beo", mar a dúirt mé ar an fóram eile. Agus is fearr liom "eiseamláir" ná "deismearacht", ach níl sé chomh tábhachtach.

    eiseamláir (nf2) example; model; paragon; eiseamláir duine a leanúint to follow sb's example.

    An brí "living example" ná go bhfuil sé fíor, ón fíorshaol. Tá an duine beo, cinnte, ach ní hé sin an pointe. Sin mo thuairmse.

    jmarshelmc: As I explained on the other forum, translation works best if the people doing it can discuss it and benefit from each other's ideas. If you keep both sides in the dark, they're not going to do as good of a job. Also, you should wait to use a translation until several people are in agreement.

    What I explained above is that the English phrase is really saying that the example is a real example, a real person, rather than an example you read about in a book. Whether the example is alive or dead isn't really the crux of the saying. That's why I'm recommending ón bhfíorshaol.

    I'm assuming that you want to do the translation here, so I'll leave ye to it. I just wanted to throw in my €0.02.

    Thanks for those links, Insect Overlord...very useful and fun to play with. I kind of went off on a tangent for about an hour reading different phrases I never really meant to look up.

    And again, thanks for the clarification Wombat, I would love for someone to get behind the most recent idea you have as it sounds as though its in line contextually with what I'm getting at.

    I was simply casting a wide net and attempting to get as much feedback as possible. But since it appears as though these boards are all frequented by the same people, I'll terminate the discussion here and stick to the Translation thread I have generated over there.
