CRT television picture slightly off centre?

Just wondering if anyone might be able to find a solution to this..I was going to offer this CRT to Steve SI in his Jaguar thread and then remembered this problem.

The whole picture seems to be slightly too far to the left. It's not noticable at all while playing and in some games you can't see it at all -

But then look at the 'C' down in the bottom left here-

The right has a curve to it too here-

The game it's worst in is Probotector-

Anyone have a clue if a tv like this (Mitsubishi Black Diamond) would have pots to adjust this kind of thing under the casing? I don't think there's anything like that on the remote?

It's a shame as other than that the picture looks really great. It doesn't really effect playing games on it either (No other game has come close to that above Probotector picture)..it's just I'm going to need to get rid of this soon and I'd rather not throw it in a bin!

This is a very common problem with some TVs when set to RGB mode. It also affects other devices which use RGB such as Sky boxes. I've read it's due to "compatibility issues with sync pulses" but I'm not aware of any fix.

Older TVs had this control inside the casing, usually a variable resistor, but newer TVs tend to have this in a hidden service menu. Just be aware that if you go down this path, composite video and terrestrial signals will then be shifted to the right.

Deffo looks like both the console and TV are knackered!

I'll take them off you for free if you like :)

That's interesting, thanks for that! :)

I am indeed running everything through this TV in RGB and the problem doesn't happen through other signals. Why I forgot to mention that I do not know :D

I doubt this has a hidden service menu, but I'll check it out. If not, I'll crack her open and have a look.

Nice to know it's not borked anyway!

Yeah I don't think it has any detrimental effect on the TV itself, it's just a tad annoying.

I also saw it on Beko TVs before, Beko and Black Diamond sets use a Vestel chassis so they'd have similar components.

I went throught 3 tvs off adverts trying to get a decent one without this issue, some have a service menu you can change stuff on. This is the reason i decided not to use a tv in my arcade cab, it was cutting bits off the sides, top and bottom on the tvs and if you dont have the original remote that came with the tv good luck trying to sort it out.

I remember that alright. Seemed like a pain...so close to having your cab finished yet so far. I hate when all the componants are there in front of you but it just won't come together!

I've had no luck trying to find service menu codes for this thing. It's a Mitsubishi Black Diamond UR5OEC923 if anyone has that kind of info at hand.

I reckon I'm going to have to take a look inside for some pots.

It needs a 'pincushion' adjustment, as to how that's done...I've no idea :D Google the make/model of your tv to see if there's hidden engineer menus you can access, if not, its likely a physical adjustment behind the back cover. I wouldn't go messing about inside the tv tbh, too dangerous & the chances of borking are high...

I have to put up as many pictures of Wily Wars as possible in a bid to get Jack Burton off his arse and buying a copy ;)

Enternow - danger wise, is it not the same as an arcade monitor? All the danger being around the anode? Or are CRT televisions totally different beasts?

Same premise I think, but not totally sure. There could be a lot more exposed parts around the tube seeing as their operation is meant to be enclosed, unlike a cab which prob has to account for people accessing pcb's etc. Tbh I've no idea, its completely safe if you know what your doing, but seeing as I don't, I'm just advising caution.

I don't even know what the pincushion adjusters look like, maybe small pots...I've no idea. Or as was mentioned above, you may be able to access the engineers menu through the tv & adjust from there.

Just out of interest o1s1n, how big is that screen?

It's a 28 inch 4:3 aspect ratio. Which is the absolute perfect combination for old games. I've been using it for that purpose for years.

Here's a pic of the TV itself -

Yeah you really need 4:3 for the retro games. That's basically what I'm looking for anyway.
