Having read the above article I think there is something rotten in the state of Denmark. I think to have accumulated a cash surplus of 3,000,000 with no plan to spend this revenue and a plan to further increase this cash pile. I get the feeling I am being played for a fool. Am I the only one who thinks this way? I would very greatful if anybody could offer a suggestion as to how we could voice our concern in a very loud manner. I am open to all suggestions!!!

The TC teaching co is a complete waste of space and our money, we pay 90 euro a year into it and get NOTHING yes thats right u heard correctly teachers get nothing in return for this 90 euro. Now I believe the TC receives about 7 million euro yes u heard right 7,000,000euro per year and and pay their CEO over 100,000 euro per year for doing what?
Well you may ask as i do not know what the organisation does much less the author of the article in todays IT knows.
I also believe the TC can do nothing if as a teacher u don't pay the affiliation fee, they threaten to have you removed from the Dep of Ed payroll but thats all they can do!!!
In fact they claim to protect teachers but in fact they can't do this either as people without teaching qualifications are going to be employed in our schools!
So there are seemingly 30 people employed in the TC and they do, yes again you are correct, you are a fast learner...........NOTHING.
Ok, you say they go into the office and do NOTHING ALL DAY well not exactly..............they vet HOW the GARDA are vetting applicants for teaching posts, they accredit teaching training courses, 'they wha' as Gay Byrne used say (gave away my age there). Seemingly they go to the Teacher Training colleges and sit in on the lectures........to see if the courses are up to scratch. Yes please refrain from displaying your 'igorance' by swearing!
Oh and they also rent premises to hold meetings...........now I have been teaching for a large number of years in fact more years than I care to remember and I have never seen, heard or been asked to attend one of these meetings...........maybe you have if so please post your comments!

I can understand the €90 when you first sign up and I suppose one could justify a once-off fee for assessing qualifications; they're a new body and obviously there are intial setting up expenses, but why they require €90 per teacher per year for diddly squat is beyond me:eek:

When posts were available, not having a teaching council number may have impeded your progress when applying for one. The TC is the biggest waste of our money. The TC also gives a few scholarships to teachers who are doing courses. I haven't paid in three years and i'm still on the payroll. . . We're a quiet oul bunch all the same, aren't we???!

I have had this discussion with TC they have removed me from TC and unless I seek a principal's job I can't be caught for the money......... a saving of sorts.............they as u know have built up a large surplus of funds...which may be against their charter.........why would they become in effect a profit making organisation.

Unbelievably incompetent and unprofessional organisation...it recently took an individual there 10 days to acknowledge receipt of an email from me sent directly to her personal address...not give a response, but acknowledge receipt.

When I asked why they weren't investing their money trying to ensure that current teachers are actually qualified to teach the subjects that they are teaching I was told outright that they 'couldn't possibly police this...it's up to a school at the end of the day to let whoever they want to teach each subject'. Wow. They really are doing a wonderful job in improving the standard of teaching in the country.
